I never understood why we didn't go after Falcao in 2011. We has AVB as our coach and he was one of the most up and coming and exciting strikers. I think we missed an opportunity to have our striker for 4 years. I know we didn't want to give up on Torres yet, but Torres has been pretty poor pretty much from day 1.

I think the move this summer should be to go for Costa, although I believe he'll want to stay in Spain. Rooney wouldn't be bad either

I agree on Falcao, that was a missed opportunity, but I think Roman wanted a bigger name hence Torres. Which I won't lie I was excited about at the time. I'd love it if we go for Rooney this summer but I don't think it has any chance of happening, doubt United would want to sell let alone sell to us. I see Cavani/Falcao as a more realistic option for the summer, still don't trust Costa yet

Even though Lukaku has scored more goals than our strikers combined, it can clearly be seen what a frustrating player he is right now, he's around the Sturridge level of frustration. He's got decent work rate which has improved under Martinez but he still throws these tantrums on the pitch when he doesn't receive a pass, doesn't help the fact that sometimes he can be a bit greedy, but I think that's more to do with him being raw and not being aware of his surroundings, he can be very whiny at times and he won't track back or do some off the ball stuff because of it. But he is progressing in becoming what Jose wants and that is evident which is something to cheer about

I'll never give up on the idea of Falcao joining Chelsea lol. Maybe he has a monster world cup and Roman finally buys him but he's getting older. I think that ship has sailed. Getting Falcao in 2011 would have been awesome.

Not happening.
His transfer fee is heavy and everyone should know by now that he is two years older than advertised. He's turning 30 in Febuary and nobody is paying 60 mil. € for 30 y/o players anymore. Not even Florentino Perez would pay 60 mil. € for him anymore.

That said, it's a shame he has played in the CL just once in his career so far. Wonderful striker.

He's not 2 years older. The school admitted that it was a clerical error and all his classmates verified the year that he attended school with them. Unless he was 8 in 1st grade and everyone is in the cover up, the story was not true.

He's still too old for that price tag though.

Some players like Ibra stay elite plus their 30s, but it's too risky.

Well, didn't know that but it still seems kinda weird. I'm not from Colombia but I've never heard that a school in Germany noted a wrong date of birth. His agent might as well have offered the school a couple thousands bucks to force a statement that it was a clerical error.
He also doesn't pass my eye test for a 27 y/o guy.

But ok, I'll believe you for now.

He does look old lol. He looks older than 29 too, but I guess that's not abnormal. I see some pretty old looking guys in their 20 all the time.

I can see how it could be a clerical mistake, but I can also see how the Colombian government could cover it up. Either way, hope he ages like Ibra.

Sucks that the Guarin deal fell through, would've been a really good buy for us

As for Falcao, I think I agree with Foye in that the transfer fee is too heavy. Safe to say the ship has sailed for him, but you never know with Roman

Yeah Guarin could have came in handy, but Inter decided to hold on to him. Hope we try to get another box to box guy.

I worry with a purchase like Falcao, or even Cavani if it would happen, that it would be just the same as the Torres & Sheva signings. Linked for years and finally buy them when they're past their physical prime / at a point where we won't get the best out of them for long. The same goes for Rooney - it just doesn't make sense.

In any case, I'd prefer we sell before we buy. Plus overpaid under-played guys like Kakuta need to be cleared from the squad.
There is no consolation prize. Winning is everything.

I think most of them will all be gone this year. 30M is probably the ceiling for the lot. Something like

Moses-5M
Marin-5M
Kakuta-1M
Essien-1M
Ba-7M
Bertrand-6M
Eto'o-free
Romeu-5M

Then we have to figure out what happens with Cech/Courtois situation. That's going to be a pain in the ass.

Thank God we are getting rid of so much dead weight. I hope we keep Courtois though. If we sell him, it has to be for at least 30

Doubt we sell Courtois, still think we just keep loaning him out until Cech proves he can't keep performing at the top. Although he's been really up and down this year, not something that will cause panic.

As for the dead weights, really hope we keep Essien hope his bias towards Mourinho will help

Also, hope we can pull an exchange for Shaw involving Bertrand or at least make sure we have Shaw first before selling Bertrand, he did start in the CL final so an exchange should be easy

What a find Bertrand Traore is, incredible talent

And there was another great save similar to the last one. I think a decision has to be made this summer when he will only have 2 years remaining left on his contract. Cech's too good to be a Cudicini, but it would suck to sell a club legend like him when he's still more than capable. This one's going to be a toughie and there will be lots of people upset whatever happens. Good thing is that Jose will be making the decision. Can you imagine Rafa making a decision as big as this? He would get murdered by the fans.

This is such a hard decision. If we sell Courtois and Peter gets injured we would be in a bad spot. Peter is a club legend, but we have to think of the future. Certainly a tough decision for Jose.

It is tough, but if there's anybody Chelsea fans would want to make that decision. It's Jose.

Yes he has 2 years left on his contract but he is playing regularly, I'm sure he's aware of how well Cech has played in the last couple of years and what a legend he is. He knows that he's Cech's successor so it shouldn't be surprising if he signs an extension I'd say by the summer.

If I were Chelsea I'd propose a 2 year extension to Courtois and also offer Atletico a 2 year extension on his loan. They'll jump at the chance to keep him for longer and Courtois should be ok provided he continues to start. I hope he's smart enough to realise that whilst we do have a dilemma as we have two of the world's best keepers under contract, the #1 spot can easily be his in a couple of years.
