1) Relax

3) Even if we end up passing on Bynum, we can still try and trade for Hawes, Or pickup Okafor. Bynum is not the only option.

4) Even if we miss out on those 2, passing on Bynum is a sign that Pat and Spo are optimistic about Oden.

Theres no way we are hedging everything on Oden.

That would be like signing Brandon Roy and having faith that "if he stays healthy, he will be the key to our playoff success"

No offense to Oden, i love the guy and really admire his desire and how hard he is working to get back to game form, but the guy a walking injury waiting to happen.

Then what? More Battier getting tossed around like rag doll by David West while bosh turns hibbert into prime Wilt Chamberlain? No thanks.

I'm not trusting anyone named "Ratchet" around here. Give me Broussard's "multiple sources" any day.

Every person weve ever picked up (not marquee players) weve always shown "minimal interest".

Its Rileys M.O., his strategy.

There is no "rumor", the fact that we guaranteed Mason's contract today is somewhat telling.

Also Heat writers seem down on Bynum, and one can suspect that they got the vibe from talking with people in the organization.

But nothing is definite until Bynum signs elsewhere.

I wouldn't take anything from what the Heat beat writers suggest. While they're all good at their job of reporting on the day to day business of the team, they all inject their own opinions into free agent acquisitions and trades and such. Quite honestly, none of them are particularly bright basketball minds either.

Don't get it, really. I guess we have Battier and we're good. Oden is not going to play any meaningful minutes after 4 years. Anthony Davis with a 1000 rebounds and whatever he wants inside sounds about right.

Nobody can make any guesses as to the Bynum situation yet.

The Heat guaranteed and kept everyone's contracts. But that's just common sense. Miami has no idea what Bynum is actually going to do yet, so waiving a player before Bynum commits to us, would be dumb, simply because if Bynum does NOT want Miami, then we waived someone useful for no reason.

So.... too early to tell. The correct move, right now, was to keep everyone on the roster. Now, Riley can still go after Bynum, and if Bynum wants to come, THEN Riley will waive someone. But without a guarantee or final decision.... then keeping everyone is what makes sense.

Yeah. They totally whiffed on the Beasley signing. They were vehemently denying there was any interest before some national guy like Woj/Stein broke the story.

Haha true. There are always mixed reports, as well as even our beat writers getting it wrong. I remember watching Sports Xtra or something on Channel 7 on a Sunday night and Tim Reynolds was talking with Steve Shapiro (ya'll got to be local as hell to understand what I'm saying lol) and he was saying how he thought the Heat would amnesty Joel and keep Miller. EVERYONE was saying that same thing, and look at what happened.

Anyway, Knicks and Nets are interested in Bynum. Keep in mind Brook Lopez is out for the season and they need a big desperately. Bynum is perfect for their situation. However, Bynum said he wants Heat or Clippers (who won't pursue him). Many teams still don't care and would pick him up, basically forcing him to play. Bynum though seems to be the type that if he isn't happy, he might just force his way out, again.

However, it seems pretty iffy now because Mason's contract was guaranteed. I feel like the Heat would have waived him by now and picked up Bynum if that was the case. It looks like they really won't make a move. Who knows. But renting a big who wants to be here, I thought it would be Riley's dream. Bynum probably doesn't fit the locker room, but people thought Birdman and Beas wouldn't fit in either.
