Missed the whole game except the last 2 minutes. It looks like we hit just enough long 2's to win the game. That's not exactly the type of win that makes me feel like we're turning a corner.

Nice to see Vesely have a good game on defense.

No. This win should not give you any more confidence then you had yesterday.

Well, it was another road win at least.

Gortat says he is working with Ves after practice and on their days off. Said he is a black man in a white body

well its was kind of mixed. We had some long 2s finally fall but we missed so many shots in the paint or at the rim on post ups. I think in an average game you get a mix of productivity with those type of shots. I think because teams run us off the 3pt line now, our go-to move is to step into an open long 2...which is just asinine. We need to drive more. The two times I saw Beal do it, well **** he looked good. :/

We looked like an NBA team in the 2nd half but there were still some dumb things that could have been corrected. Defensively we looked far more competent, but it also helps when your competition is the lolcats, although that didn't stop denver, mil etc.. for making a mockery of us. Sans Webster, SF game has just been uggggggh lately. :I

@Truth_About_It: Gortat on Book "Quite honestly, in 3rd quarter it was only 1 man show. It was Booker. I don't know what he ate, what he did...truly a madman

I wonder if there is any self-realization right now.

Like, if I was a member of the Wizards who was insanely athletic and an excellent ball handler and finisher, and I was 1/6 from the field all from jumpers, I feel like I (logically) would say to myself, "Now miller31time, you're really good at something and you're really bad at something else. Maybe don't do a lot of the thing you suck at and maybe do more of the thing you're really good at!"

But that requires thought process and cognitive thinking.

Unless he is being encouraged to "take what the team gives him" Which we know Randy tells him. Generally, I agree with that approach. Be that requires you can exploit what they are giving you. At some point, you have to not take what they give you, but take what you want. That's what a star does.

Wall is getting better though. Lets hope it continues. He will have some off nights along the way.

Gortat also played some decent defense on Al Jefferson. And the team showed up and played in the 3rd quarter. But yeah, we are still behind teams like Golden State and Toronto.

Just watching a bit of the Toronto/Indy game, and it's clear that Toronto is a better team than the Wizards. They can go 10 deep easily, and really not lose too much in transitioning from starters to bench.

It'll be interesting to see what Ujiri does at the deadline—my bet is that he continues the course, and sells off Derozan and Lowry at premium value. He's not going to let this terrible Eastern Conference trick him into thinking the Raptors are actually a team that can compete with their current core.

Well, he is generating some offense. I wouldn't say he is playing good overall though. Made plenty of bad defensive plays. Its pretty close to a wash about now. Give up as much as he has made.

It's all about who he matches up with. Same with Gortat. Zeller and McRoberts are terrible. He's abusing them. Gortat also doing a nice job on Jefferson who is 6-9. Gortat seems to have issues with those 6-11, 275-pound brutes.

Yes he does

You know what SA would do with that.

Pump fake, pass to the next open man or pump fake, dribble to close the space, pass to the next open man. Covered ? Repeat the above options. End result. Open 3 or a basket at the rim.

Wouldn't say Vesely's defense was stellar. He got abused in the first half, then got better and had a few blocks and 'bounds in the second.

He played a lot of consecutive minutes and our offense was putrid with him on the court. He took up space and seemed even less interested in touching the ball than usual.

The difference in this game was one, terrific run at the beginning of the 2nd half. Booker was en fuego and the team was actually running isos for him. They were also laughing after each successive shot he hit, as in, "what? Booker hit that? "

The one most encouraging thing was that, after they scored a couple of buckets to start that 17-0 run, they picked up their defensive intensity for a good 5 minute stretched...

Then Randy went to the bench and it all pretty much sucked again until Beal got hot late.

Are bench still struggles because Maynor and Temple combine for 4.1 ppg 3.0 apg 2 rpg .7spg on 30% shooting. Just think about that for a second. :nonono:

The real encouraging thing about the game was Gortat totally out-playing Al Jefferson at both ends. This was the Gortat we were seeing earlier in the season. He would have had an even better game if some easy shots didn't roll off the rim.

see, I still disagree with that. You are just looking at a red hot team and comparing them to us playing crappy ball right now. Neither course will stay the same. I wouldnt even be shocked if we won in NO tomorrow while they lose at home to Detroit. There is no way someone will convince me that there A game is better then our A game or that there average game is better then ours. Only time will tell though

I was reading the Raps forum during our last two games with them. Most of them seemed to be of the opinion that the Wizards are more talented than the Raps, and remarked on how we have better offensive players.

The main advantage they have is on the defensive end (#7 defense in the league). We're likely never going to be a top 10 defense again with Gortat starting at C.

In theory, we should be able to outright overpower their defense with offense.. Wall/Beal/Nene/Gortat/Ariza/Webster is a very formidable lineup in the Eastern Conference. But thanks to Wittman, we run a one-trick pony offense that doesn't maximize our talents.
