I hope we try and get Neal. He'd be very valuable off the bench, IMO.

Neal would be very valuable in the starting lineup to be honest.

I think if he were on this team he would be starting over KCP at SG right now. If we can find a way to get him for some of our scraps that would be a very nice pickup.

I could see something like Jerebko for Neal. Hammond has always like JJ and he seems to fit the type of players they look for. I'd do that in a second.

I know what buyers/sellers means, but it doesn't seem to apply to this situation. We don't really have any bad contracts that need to be dumped for capspace, in terms of being true sellers. Hard to see Smith traded this soon in a salary dump, and even harder to find a team that has the capspace and a large expiring contract to offer in return. I bet any number of contenders would take him in an instant, but few have the resources to offer us cap relief for him. And the tanking teams with capspace aren't going to want to mess up their tank and use all their money on him.

Conversely, what assets do we have to offer other teams as buyers, other than Monroe?

I suppose we could be using our expiring contracts to try and add some extra talent, but hard to see us adding anything significant with just expiring contracts and no draft picks to offer. Plus, would we even get back someone better than Stuckey in return?

It just seems like our only way to upgrade is by trading Monroe for a piece that better fits. Which wouldn't really be buying or selling.

yeah, if its just Dumars vs Gores and the Bobs its not much of a debate, but if Joe has Gores or the Bobs on his side it could get a little tricky.

plus, like Q said who are they even talking about when they say sellers? who do we have to sell?

We really have Smith to sell. That means we are giving up on this season and acknowledging that his signing was not a good move. But if we can dump him for an expiring, we can start over and get a better fit for SF.

Would Indiana dump Granger (who may never be his old self again) for Smith? They are going for a championship this year and like him or hate him, Smith could help them do that, even as a bench player.

Would New York Knicks or Brooklyn Nets dump some expirings to get Smith? They are both desperate to get to the playoffs.

Who would stop that lineup in the West? Grabbing Monroe would allow Spurs to basically sit Duncan till the playoffs and play Smith next to Monroe and move Marco to the starting lineup.

We actually save 6-7 M on this deal by dumping both Smith and Jerebko

Next up we trade for Afflalo by offering KCP + Stuckey for AA and Big Baby
Orlando gets a young, top ten pick for AA and saves almost 11M next season.

We become:

Jennings - Afflalo - Leonard - Big Baby - Drummond
Bynum - Billups - Datome - Diaw - Splitter

This move should let us tank for the #8 pick as we would have a pretty bad bench besides Splitter. We could use that pick along with Splitter to get ourselves a solid PF or use the 13M from CharlieV + Diaw's expiring deals to grab a PF. But the most important move in all of this is to fire Joe Assholle.

I'd pull the trigger on that. Then again, I would pretty much be all for any Josh Smith trade for anything. Josh Smith for pocket lint? SOLD! Hell of a "talent upgrade" Joe!

No trades for they might improve the team and the only way Joe does is if the team continues to suck. Any trade of Monroe/Smith for a legit shooter SF makes this team a play-off team, stuck on the just good enough for 7-8th seed, eliminated first round treadmill.

No trade means this team/lockerroom is going to meltdown sooner than later and that could get us so bad that we keep our pick this year.

They're looking to move Asik and Motie since they don't need them anymore. Getting back a decent PF that can defend well would be a plus for them despite Terrence playing well.
