I think OKC is now 5-4 without Westbrook, while Miami is 4-4 without Wade, I believe. That aspect of the contest seems fairly even at this point.

George seems to be fading a bit. He had just 11/2/2 tonight in 28 minutes as Indy beat Toronto.

I understand what you're saying but I think voters will look at Heat's record in the end of the season and OKC's record. So, if Wesbrook misses 25 games it will hurt more Durant's chances even he has a better winning % than LeBron without Wade. People take the global team record into account a lot.

This argument goes either way.

"OKC is a top 4 seed in the West, with Westbrook missing almost 30 games. Durant MVP".

It's Kevin Durant's MVP to lose this year just like it was for the first half of last year.

Miami and OKC with equal win-loss record. Does this affect the race?

^I think it does, only to the extent it seems OKC is sliding without Westbrook recently.

If the slide continues and they fall back a couple games behind MIA and are a #2 or #3 seed in the West, I don't see that getting Durant MVP over Lebron.

That's not to say Durant doesn't deserve it, I would personally give him the nod at this point in the season (clearly, for that matter) but I don't think the voters will give it to him with a worse team record since both he and LBJ have elite stats.

I had Durant in the lead about a week ago..Given current team records, Lebron is ahead by a slim margin...

While Durant's raw numbers rival Lebron's, he lacks the play making abilities to control a game without scoring and make his teammates better regardless of what his assists #'s tell you...

Why do people flip flop on a game by game situation. Until Lebron starts out producing Durant this season he has no right to be ahead of kd right now. Could it happen? Most likely will but lets not underrate Durant just because wb injured. I do however hope that defence talk, especially when compared to true elite defensive wings stop with Durant. Until he starts taking the hot man down the stretch night in night out, he doesn't belong in the conversation.

The only way that i can see LeBron winning the MVP this year is if LeBron were to outplay Durant in both of their upcoming two games this season.
Thanks for all the great memories, LeBron! The show must go on! #Heatnation

That has little to no weight on it. Durant could put up better numbers in 2 head to heads, but if LeBron has another GOAT month in February or March, he will jump ahead of Durant regardless of the head to heads.

Don't under-estimate the fickleness of the media. If they have similar team records and similar numbers, some voters going by head to head wouldn't surprise me at all.

Oh, If everything else is even, that will of course be the factor. That said, WB is out for a month or two, the Heat will be cruising through wins in the easy while the Thunder are going to need to fight every night just to win a game. I doubt there records will be close.

Also, re-read what the poster I quoted said; "The only way...". Clearly, that isn't the only way for him to win MVP as there are many more ways Lebron can win the award besides winning head to heads.

According to NBA.com, OKC is at 107 points per 100 possessions in offensive rating. After Westbrook went down, we are at 108. Actually, Thunder improved offensively with Durant having a bigger role. On the other hand, defense is two points worse in defensive rating.

Is it me or are both Lebron and Durant seemingly always drop a game on the same day?

Kyle Lowry has entered NBA.com's MVP ladder at 10th:

http://www.nba.com/mvp-ladder/

The Rudy Gay trade revealed many things about the Toronto Raptors. It also provided an avenue for Lowry to cement himself as the true leader of that team -- at least until he gets traded -- and a player who is capable of willing his team to wins by virtue of his relentless motor. DeMar DeRozan has been the Raptors' leading scorer all season, but Lowry is their team leader. And he's shared plenty of the scoring burden since Gay departed. He's averaging 18.8 points, 9.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds in his last 10 games. Those are elite point guard numbers by anyone's measure, but especially so on a team that is 7-3 during that span.

LeBron had nice numbers today but he disappeared in OT. Neither he or KD is making a particularly strong case in the last few games. Paul George was 2-14 today. Maybe it is time to look at Kyle Lowry.

How'd he disappear? No one else showed up tonight but him, bosh laid an egg in the middle of the court. Kg picked it up and quietly cracked it and smeared it all over his face saying "Christina tastes like honey nut Cheerios". Like kd these last few games Bron was gassed in the fourth and ot from carrying the team offensively and defensible all night and when he had a chance to tie it up refs called a horrible offensive foul on him. (After some of the worst calls all year before that)

Also, even if Lebron dropped 50 today and won this is not a game by game thing. Kd would have still been in the lead. I swear he also out-scored the nets by himself in the fourth

LeBron is too passive for too many key parts of games. So many games where he starts off with 10-15 1st quarter points only to finish the game with 25 or fewer because he spends the two middle quarters trying to put up assists. Yes, I call this stat-padding. He could just be tired (his stamina looks bad this year). First three minutes of OT, he tried to find open shooters - they all missed. Only when the situation looks grim does he look to score. This is a pathetic habit and I'd hold it against him if the MVP race ends up being closer. A bad LBJ possession on offense is better than a good one from most player, including Cole and Ray Allen (these two are so predictable when they drive). LBJ likes to have his teammates involved and use them to beat the other team...but he's way better than them so if they fail, it's actually sort of his fault. LBJ looks sluggish in a half-court game nowadays

KD is still in the lead but probably won't be after two more weeks. OKC looks terrible out there. My gripe against KD is that he is very one-dimensional. Even when he tries to be a passer, it looks so forced. Either way, he can't set up his teammates like the elite passers and usual MVP candidates can (LBJ, CP3). Would not be surprised if OKC play less than .500 basketball until WB returns. WB is a monster. Even when he has poor shooting nights, he can be on the verge of triple doubles easily. Also tired of KD getting 20 free throws a game. I believe he shot 19 free throws vs Utah even though he took 12 3-pointers.

Heat were missing 3 starters, and they don't look as energetic as last year. They could run fast breaks without Wade last year. This year, they suck. If they don't make it to the finals, I think LBJ should seriously consider leaving and not because of these recent losses, but because Wade is riding him in the regular season. Is this guy taking every other game off? It will probably only get worse next year with Ray Allen and Shane Battier getting even older

I'm a big LBJ fan, but I'm also very critical with him(read my old posts here) but the loss vs the Nets isn't on him(yes he missed that FT, but that wasn't the reason of the loss)!
Ray Allen and the others have missed a lot of open and easy wide-open shoots! also Lebron is clearly tired, because he has to do every thing in this team when Wade doesn't play! Bosh has proved to be not that good as a second best player in the team!
Lebron also has to catch more rebounds, because only 6 rebounds for a player with his size are too few specially when your team is out rebounded almost by every team even by an old team like the Nets and the NYK without Chandler!

It should a be joke that Lowry is in the list LOL.

Paul George is nowhere near to a mvp level, even Indiana gets 65 wins. He is good but overrated.

Lebron is playing about %70-80 of himself but still beasting. KD plays his all but he is a beast as well. These two are way over the league. Fun watching them.
