They never do. Sad thing is that the Nets have followed suit, chasing success with washed-up, aged super stars to sell tix and win headlines with "splashy" moves. What I find interesting is that almost all of the Big Market teams (NY, Brooklyn, Chicago, Boston, LA Lakers) are either cap strapped, playing poorly or a trade away from full tank mode. All with suspect ownership, save Boston which I hate to say is the most savvy sports town. The Celts may be even be poised to pull of a quick turnaround a'la the Sawks given their heady moves and complete shakedown of the Nets. Especially if they keep Rondo. Anyway, it looks like the new CBA's doing its job. This is the new NBA where being a big market team isn't enough. Hopefully they'll wise up and start making more sound basketball decisions so they can stop breaking their delusional fan's hearts.

No one in NY is stupid. We all hate our FO. It's been that way for over a decade. Take a trip to our board and see what we actually talk about when it comes to that team. We hate JR. We'll trade him for a bag of socks.

Have you read anything the guy with the shumpert avatar says? That guy has no clue about anything but he's definitely a Knicks fan. He thinks JR smith is great, he thinks his brother will be a GREAT backup PG and he thinks Seth curry will be a superstar. I'm not talking about the dolphin lips guy, that guy knows what hes talking about, I'm talking about the guy who copied his avatat

Celtics had a great run since the big 3, you can't keep this up for decades. They got picks, great management and cap space, all they need is Rondo back and make another move.

They don't and won't be rebuilding 4 straight years like the Cavaliers do. Less than 2 years.

I honestly don't know who would want that infantile brat in their team. Smith is somewhat mentally challenged person who shouldn't be playing basketball at all, he should be enrolled in a school for people with special needs. Someone would maybe think I am not serious about this, but I am dead serious. Just look at his behavior on and off the floor, he is out of control, juvenile, it is more then obvious that his is not suited to handle grown up responsibilities.

That's because the organization is such a mess they always spent money like a drunk sailor.
They didn't have capspace because they were idiots.

Scalabrine wrote:The one year in the past 10 years the have had capspace the signed Amare Stoudemire, who did change the franchise and was one of the top 5 free agents in a free agency class that had LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Dirk, Joe Johnson, DLee, Pierce, etc...

Yeah, Amare was quite a steal.

Especially since nobody wanted to insure his contract.
He did lead the league in fire-estinguisher punching, though.

Scalabrine wrote:Its not that players dont want to play/live in New York, its more the fact that they want to make money, and if the Knicks can offer the same money as another team, I still think most players would have them near the top of their lists.. they just never put themselves in position too... after next season they should have a lot of space in another big year in free agency.

Don't lie. New York could offer Lebron just as much money as Miami did.
Lebron just didn't want to go to NY because the Knicks incompetence is renowned (everyone knows except the Knicks fan base, apparently), and he wanted to win titles.

The guy who actually wanted the money (Melo) forced his way to NY, and the Knicks were dumb enough to sell the farm instead of telling him to wait till summer and signed him as a FA. If he cared about winning, he'd have given up a little money. But he didn't.

The reality is NYC is the biggest city in the world and players LOVE it here. MSG is called the MECCA for a reason (hence my name). Sure we're having a bad season, but I can guarantee you when we've cleared cap space for 2015, you will see a monster big 3 so big, everyone will forget about the Heat.

Amare wasn't a superstar and neither is Melo.
And Melo cost the Knicks more than an arm and a leg.
Jason Kidd was old as ****.
Chandler didn't take less money.

As for the Mecca crap and guarantees about FAs going to NY, I seem to remember the same arguments being thrown around before July 2010. It was about that Lebron fellow, right ? BTW, do you happen to know where he signed ? Did he go to the Mecca ? How is he playing for the Knicks ?

themeccamsg wrote:As for those claiming the Raptors are somehow in better shape than the Knicks.... :noway:

Saying "LoL, no way" is why people call NY fans delusional.
It's actually the definition of delusional.

On one hand it's funny to watch NY fans talking trash, all full of themselves and overconfident and then getting slapped in the face by reality over and over again.
On the other hand, it's a bit sad, cause it's like making fun of people with a mental disability.

themeccamsg wrote:Also I'm not going to propose a JR Smith trade cause this is garbage. Despite his antics, JR is a former 6th man of the year and one of the most unappreciated players in the league, and he's only making the NBA average salary. He's staying, like it or not.

He'll stay because nobody wants his stupid ass. Unless the Knicks throw in something actually usefull, like a pick (do they have any left ?) or a Shumpert (who's anyway overrated by NY fans).

Where the Celtics at now? You can't be serious. I'll tell you where they're at. Steppin' in your Knicks' ass on YOUR "mecca" court by 40 something with a "tanking" team and rookie coach. C'mon son, I'm a Laker head from NY. I've been shaming your squad for a long time. This is light work. Knicks fans overvalue these player's desire to play in NY. Sure they like to come to NY and put up career numbers on your squad under the bright lights and watch yall blow big games but don't nobody wanna come play for this dysfunctional franchise. History of bad ownership, bad management and fans with maddeningly delusional expectations. My only hope is that Melo stays his bum ass on your team and doesn't come out here to LA. Y'all deserve each other.

you mean how Denver just stomped the Lakers out?
Look, every team has bad games.
This team is a first round exit.
Actual fans of the Knicks that know what they are talking about knew this during the pre-season.

As a Laker fan you should know better. A lot of your fanbase is the exact same as ours. They don't know ****. Same with all major markets. Too many casual fans that talk to here themselves speak.

I totally agree that Lakers fans can be delusional. I'm not one of them tho. We mishandled the Dwight signing in every way possible. Jim Buss is no Dr. Buss, Jeanie should be running this franchise. What scares me is that from all reports, he seems to make ego driven decisions in the same ilk as James Dolan. And we all know what bad ownership can do to a franchise. With that said, our fanbase may be SIMILAR to yours in their present delusional state but we are FAR from the same. Huge difference, we've actually won and won big and consistently, which builds REALISTIC expectations and a desire to sustain our winning culture. The Lakers have a great legacy and reputation that is both revered and hated around the league. The Knicks haven't been a real threat to win the title since the 90s. So yeah, our fans can be delusional about Kobe coming back to save this team somehow. I'm not one of em. I know nobody wants to play with him. We'll pay him 2 years for his goodbye tour then re-up again. I also know that if Jim Buss doesn't get his ish together we can easily go the way of the Knicks. But again, we are not the same. Our team is injured to the point that we have a D-Leaguer starting at the point. We have no superstar. You have mostly the same core from last year's successful team and still can't win. Sure you lost some vets and have had some injuries but its more of an indictment on Melo and his ability to lead and make teammates better. Which is why I pray to the basketball Gods that we don't try to sign him this offseason.

Your post says other wise. Nothing about what Scal said was out of touch. You just don't like what he said.

Say what you what but NY is NY. It's the biggest city in the world. That in itself means something. Win here and you can win anywhere.

STAT was top 3 of that 2010 FA class. Did that work out? No. Did we say it did? No

You bring up Lebron, but the last time I checked MIA had room for three not just two. Flip situations and who knows.

You don't have to like Melo, but he's is one of the best players in the NBA hands down. Just because he wears a Knick jersey does not change that.

Melo is doing just fine. Lets run through the Knicks this year:
Udrih has been starting
Prigs is out
Chandler has been out
Shump just showed up somwhat
Murry doesn't really play
THJR is a rook
Felton has never been a PG
Martin has been out
Bargs has been so so
STAT still can't play defense
Cole and Tyler.........LOL
Mike Woodson has no playbook
WE HAD CHRIS SMITH ON THE TEAM!!!
...and we have JR
all this and we still may make the playoffs because of that dude you hate and the fact that we play in the east.
Hate on Melo all you want, but he has been ALL we have at times this year, and that's sad considering we are caped out, have very few assets and no draft picks. He gets way too much hate when he's carrying the Knicks in every way he can. Problem is, this is a team sport.....

It's OK though, Melo is our **** and the rest of the league will just deal with it.

I don't hate them. I am just amazed at how ridiculously out of touch with reality they are. Not all, but many.

One of the best scorers but far from one of the best players.
