Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
Shabazz was picked ahead of the Greek Freak, doesn't mean Giannis wouldn't have value for us or any team in the NBA for that matter. Mirotic has been fantastic after he was drafted and is one of the best players in Europe.
I can't believe how many of you like David Lee so much. He's an even worse fit with Pekovic than Love and has a big ass contract we'd be stuck with. With Lee, Barnes and Klay we wouldn't be any better than the Warriors are now, as Curry and Iguodala are miles better than Rubio and Brewer, while Bogut is as good a player and a much better fit next to Lee than Pekovic would be. The GS deal just makes us become stuck in mediocrity. Fighting for the 7th or 8th seed and losing the 1st round with almost no way of improving.
The Bulls deal really depends on the picks, but don't think that #14 in this draft will be anywhere near as bad as our #14 was in the 13 draft. Mirotic is great, Butler is a genuine LeBron/Durant/George stopper that you need nowadays. Taj Gibson would be a great shotblocking presence next to Pekovic, Deng is expiring, so I can't really see that happening, but if we could make that happen, we have a great glue 3/D guy. With 2 picks in the stacked 2014 draft, there is no way we would say no to that.

Bulls get : K. Love / K. Martin / A. Shved
and now that deng is gone, what's the minimum you'd take back from the bulls in a kevin love-centric deal?

Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
The Bulls are in full tank mode after trading Deng, likely trading Hinrich and Dunleavy in the next month.
Let's assume that Chicago gets the #6 pick, and their Charlotte pick is the #13 pick. They have the Kings top 12 protected 1st for the next 3 years as well.
Draft day deal for those 3 picks, the rights to Mirotic, Boozer's expiring deal.
I don't think Chicago offers any more than that, and an extension would have to be agreed upon.
Would the T'Wolves do that knowing that Love may leave?

Out of all the deals, the GS is still the best for us, but it's probably also the least likely.

It would take a couple players and a couple draft picks that the Lakers don't have.

Mirotic will have an amazing career in the NBA, and i think that this year he will go to NBA if Chicago offer him a good contract. (He need to paid to Real Madrid for his release 1.5 million of Euros)
I think that the 3 picks plus Mirotic and Butler is a good deal for MIN

Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
I'm thinking Love/Dieng for Ibaka/Lamb makes the most sense for the Wolves. Ibaka fits nicely with Pek on both ends and is locked-up long-term. Lamb gives you another wing shooter/scorer to open up the offense for Rubio.
Apologies if that idea's already been discussed ad nauseam.

That is terrible return for the Wolves. Love, IMO, has a lot of trade value, and that trade does not even get close to Loves value.

I would like Butler to be thrown in on the deal.

Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
A couple questions about Love actually opting out in '15:
1) What is the NBA next contract raise based upon? I thought the % was 4% raise based on last salary...is 4% correct? And what base number is used, the previous's year salary paid or what?
I ask, assuming Love is remotely happy in MN, which is a thread in itself, Love would be leaving lots of money on the table to opt out (over the course of his career). In two ways:
A) If the next contract raise is based on previous year salary, or any combination, Love by opting out uses a lower salary number base (about 1 million lower in '15 vs. '16). So that would mean that over the span of his next contract (assuming 4 years if he leaves), he is making considerable less per year over 4 years. And for every contract after that (even his 4th contract).
B) If he opts out (and leaves MN) he will be 27yo when he starts his next contract (his third) and 31 when starting his next contract (his 4th). Assuming a 5 year re-sign for his 4th contract, paying him through 35 years of age.
C) But if he opts IN for his last year in MN (although still leaves MN as FA), he uses a higher base salary for all future raises (base points).
D) Plus assuming same contract lengths as above for 3rd contract (4 years) and 4th contract (5 years) contract, he plays until past 36, adding one more year of NBA salary at premium superstar pay with highest base points.

Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
Of course he'd be leaving $ on the table, but that assumes he walks for nothing. Most stars are able to formulate a sign & trade whereby they get their max dollars, and the former team gets some assets back.

Still not good enough. Love still leaving.
I think Love for young athletic talent is still the way to go in the summer.

That starting 5 is pretty damn solid. PG that can play both sides and an athletic scorer who can create for himself. Make another move with the bench like Shved/Neal swap.
Love is a the kind of player you need to keep around for as long as you can, not Rubio.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
