I just have a pet peeve for people doing the math wrong.

I just found out today that I cannot get into the math class I need to graduate with a Minor in mathematics, despite doing more classes than I needed for my Mechanical Engineering degree. So I'd either have to go to school in the fall for ONE class, or not get the Minor.

**** math.

Why can't you get into the class? I didn't go to high school so I have no idea how college works :sigh:

Class was overloaded (student limited was 30, 35 students were put in the class). Asked my adviser to squeeze me in. Adviser tried but instructor insisted that not only were they overloaded but it was ridiculous that he had 5 additional students.

I take responsibility for waiting to sign up so late, but this instructor KNOWS me and KNOWS that I couldn't do anything this winter break thanks to my dad's health and legal troubles. I would have absolutely came in earlier and got into the class before the overload. So I'm really pissed.

Most colleges only have a finite number of openings for a given course. This is dictated by number of available instructors, room sizes, etc. Depending on the course a college may elect to expand this number if demand is high or cancel an offering if there is low enrollment. Courses are usually filled on a seniority basis.

Oftentimes if a course is fairly specialized or has low interest then a college might only offer it in one semester/quarter out of the year.

There were also cases when I was in college where two courses were both offered at the same time that I wanted to attend and there were no alternative sessions in either (meaning I could only choose one).

I can't speak to why HK couldn't get into his course but I would assume it is related to something from the above.

Bummer :(

No, please enlighten me...

Well, you misused it, so I had to ask.

That sucks man, hopefully it turns out to be a blessing in disguise for you. I had to pass up promotions in the past because of family circumstances so I know that's a crappy spot to be in.

Exactly. And even then it still has flaws.

I went to Michigan Tech until they kicked me out.

I'm finishing my degree at Ferris State University.
