Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
The wolves have waited too long to trade Love and still expect full value. Should have traded him over the summer when there was still 2 years on the deal. I'm afraid that most of the deals you guys can't stand the wolves will be lucky to get this summer.

If we do have to trade Love I'd hope we would include Martin in the deal. His contract, age, defense and skill set aren't necessarily good for a rebuild/retool. We need a wing who can create their own shot. Especially if we do keep Ricky

I think the new CBA made S&T more difficult and limits trade partners to teams with cap to sign Love.

A free agent's maximum salary in the first year of a new contract is never less than 105% of his salary in the last year of his previous contract.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q16
However, thats just the lowest his max can be. Maximum contracts are based on a percentage of the salary cap. Whenever Love becomes a free agent, his maximum will be at 30% of the salary cap. Based on this year's figures, it would be $16,441,500 as the starting point.

So if I am reading it right, he would be leaving TONS of money on the table to opt out (on his next contract and over his career).
Plus the new S&T he can't get the 5th year or the higher raise rate.

This is really important. I don't think Martin has much value to us as it is, except for being a competent SG, but without Love, we should ship out Martin as well before his value plummets. He disappears in the 4th, and can't create his own shot, making him a bad fit with our team.
For all of you wanting to trade Rubio to keep Love happy... are you nuts? Rubio and Love are best pals and regardless of how many times Love has been frustrated with our team, his criticism has never gone towards Rubio. Ricky and Pek are his guys, so unless we get significantly better by trading them, we should avoid it. I agree they don't fit well, but especially Rubio's trade value is at an all time low now. Much lower than what he is actually worth.

If he opts out, the first year of his new deal would be $16,505,016. If he plays his last year, his new deal would start at $17,581,430.
If he re-ups with us, the maximum raise is 7.5%. If he signs outright with someone else or we S/T, his raises are 4.5%.

Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
Wolves could make playoffs, but they will lose at first round againts any top seed.
The next year probably the same story, very difficult to make changes to severely improve the roster, far away from contender.
You know, cold Minnesota, no contender, no contender future suposed, so Love no re-sign.
Wolves could wait until summer, but they should start searching for the best trade for Love, now that the value is high.
My favorite trade, something like Love + ... for Lee + Barnes + ..., GSW core will be incredible and probably resign with them, Wolves have in lee poor man Love and Barnes, 2 way athletic young good player Much more than nothing.
IMO perfect trade for GSW, they have Curry, Iguadala for long, cheap, klay rookie, resign Bogut or better rim protector center, re-sign love (why not ? california, contender), super starting five and cap space to sign some role players, contender for years

Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
I have a couple of things I don't like about the proposed Warriors trade:
1. We don't get better interior D/rim protection. Adding Lee will just make our front court an even worse fit than we have now. Lee doesn't have all that much value with 2 years and 30 million on his contract either.
2. We don't get a shot creator. Klay Thompson is a knockdown 3 point shooter who'd be a fantastic upgrade over Martin, but it's still Steph Curry or Iguodala who get the job to finish the games. Are we banking on Harrison Barnes here?
3. We have to pay Klay Thompson really soon. We basically get Klay for 1 season before we have to pay him over 10 million. Considering we will already have Lee (15), Pek (12) Bud+Brew (10) and also need to re-sign Rubio at this point, we are already close to the salary cap after sigining Klay, with Barnes becoming a RFA the next year. Obviously Lee will expire before Barnes gets a big contract, but that leaves us with a whole on PF, without many assets.
I get that we are starved for a playoff spot and that the GS trade will probably get us closest to that next year, but we need to think a bit more long-term. It really depends what happens with us this season though, cause making the playoffs, missing both playoffs and pick or just getting our pick are totally different situations.

Re: Kevin Love Free Agency/Trade Thread
I don't like any trade involving K Love but if it had to happen:
MN in: Thaddeus Young, Michael Carter Williams, Evan Turner, Greg Oden, Philly 1st round pick from Miami (unprotected), NO 1st round pick from Philly (1-5 protected)
MN out: Kevin Love, Kevin Martin
Philly in: Kevin Love, Udonis Haslem, Joel Anthony
Philly out: Young, Williams, Turner, NO 1st round pick
Miami in: Kevin Martin
Miami out: Philly 1st rd pick, Greg Oden, Joel Anthony, Udonis Haslem
MN gets a suitable replacement for Love, Carter Williams and two nice picks in the draft along with theirs. Philly gets Love and has the cap space to bring in a second star this offseason. Miami gets a another weapon.

Nice job Klomp.
At this point, I'd also point out that besides the lower raises in a sign-and-trade, the new CBA also prohibits S&T's to any team over the lux.
This means Love has incentive to work with the wolves somewhat. Even if he's traded, he doesn't want to alienate MIN and have them trade him to a team where he wouldn't re-sign. That risks his bigger raises in the next deal.

Historical evidence suggests the loss in trade value occurs after the trade deadline -- 1.5 seasons is full value. Perhaps teams value this way because they'd have the star for two playoffs.

If it were me everyone would be available except Ty Lawson as the goal would be to pair Lawson with a legitimate star player. I have no idea what it would take though.

Something built around Faried and the Knicks pick. Maybe make it a bigger trade for Love and Martin.

Love for Ibaka + R.Jackson (+ fillers or pick on both side to make it work)
Rubio for AA (+ fillers and pick as well)
Also would you deal Love for let's say Wigging or Jabari Parker (and some asset) ?
Love is gone for sure, so why not get something for him ?
Rubio is good, fun... but has his flaws and he hates being in Minnesota ... he will also go 1st chance he get's to leave (especially if team is not title contender).

Stop making **** up or provide a link that supports statements like that. I'm getting pretty tired of people saying this **** about every player.
