He had a steady girlfriend from college, all the way up until this last offseason. They broke up, and Hayward started dating this girl for a few months before they got engaged around Christmas.

This guy has it right. I know a bunch of you are criticizing this post but the reality is that many players divorce during and or once their career is over. Many cheat on their wives (and vice-versa) due to distance during the season / serious temptations. Also, he is soon to come into a big payday possibly - so now he will do this while married meaning that money is hers too now.

Look, Kobe Bryant found a really pretty girl and they got engaged while she was still in High School and while they are still married their struggles have been well documented. This girl is pretty too but the reality is guys are young, away from their wives, have professional 10's trying their damnedest to have fun or worse (Baby Mamas ala Dwight). The other reality is people really don't know who they are when they are in High School - you get all those feeling of an adult like love but marriage is more than love and you are still learning about who you are at that age.

There's no real reason to do this. Is it so awful for her & him to be bf/gf...why the rush?!

Word is he was dating a girl since high school, up until last year when she went abroad with the peace corps and while she was overseas Hayward cheated on her with his now fiancee, so there's a plot twist.
