Grunfeld a Great GM. Proves Doubters Wrong

Post#1 » by milellie111 » Sat Jan 11, 2014 1:22 am

I believe Ernie Grunfeld deserves some credit for such a well balanced team he has put together. The best backcourt in the league with Wall and Beal, one of the best overall small forwards in the East (Ariza),a legit starter in Booker, and a serviceable center in Gortat. The bench is also deep. Garrett Temple is a gem and one of the best defensive backup pgs in the league, Nene is a top 10 power forward in the league when healthy, Martell Webster could be a starter on another team, Vesely is a rebounding freak and has lots of potential and Otto Porter has star potential. Most importantly this team has chemistry, the guys look as if they all mesh and have fun playing together and there are no knuckleheads/problem childs on the team.

There is a reason Grunfeld still has his job....Because he knows what he's doing!! Constantly im reading on here and hearing from Wizards fans they want Grunfeld gone. Ernie actually needs an extension. This team is built to hang with anyone in the East and the future looks bright with the money we have to sign a free agent. Most importantly, Ernie chose the right coach in Whittman. He could be a candidate for coach of the year if the team keeps playing like it is. Whittmans coaching style is working and the guys are responding. Whittman has turned Wall into a star right under our eyes and possibly the best all around point guard in the league (offensively and defensively). Quiet as kept, Ted Leonsis is one of the best owners in the league compared to some other guys (mark cuban). Ted cares about this team and is committed to winning. Also, he is one of the most down to earth individuals out there.

The future looks bright for this team and i hope everyone is retained on the coaching and management staff as i see this team being one of the best in the NBA.

5 straight sub 30 win seasons. A decade long sub-40% winning percentage. A losing record this year with a capped out team in one of the weakest conferences in history. No draft pick in one of the strongest drafts in years.

If you havent noticed, this team is 1 game out of 4th place in the East and is built to be a contender for at least the next 5 years. The future looks very bright.

This is an all-time great use of message board sarcasm. Original post belongs in the Hall of Fame. So does this one ^^^.

Well played, milellie111. Well played.

Contending for what? a .500 record? By definition 1/2 the teams will accomplish that each season. During that time frame, I would expect some improvement from Wall and a good amount from Beal and Porter(really only one direction for his play to go). However that will be offset by a decline of Nene, Gortat and likely Ariza in the 2nd half of that time period.

Even though the game against Indiana got out of hand this evening, this team hung tough until 3rd quarter. We just have to play complete games. The fact that we were hanging tough right there with the best team in the NBA more than half of the game really gives evidence to the toughness and character of these guys. Again, this team is built to win and will taste success and Ernie Grunfeld is a main factor. This team played 4 games in 5 nights which is a grind for any team in the NBA to endure. Even still, the Wizards have a better road record than home record.

Just an interesting thing about this team and the playoffs this year
8 seeds.
1 & 2: Miami or Indy
3, 4, 5, 6: Both NY teams, Atlanta, Toronto
7, 8: Cleveland. Chicago {Wizards}

The Wiz are probably fighting for the 7th or 8th seed. This is not looking good.

I see no reason why Nets & Knicks won't put it together especially after tonight.
Atlanta and Chicago belong.
Toronto is clearly better than the Wiz
Cleveland just added an All Star.

In all seriousness, and I probably should not take this thread seriously...you want to extend a GM that "might" get a 7 or 8 seed in a HORRIBLE Eastern Conference....yeah good luck.

Our options are limited.
Resign Ariza &/or Gortat!
Loose a pick in a STACKED draft.
Draft too many ppl playing the same position...

Sigh,
