Pau's new contract. How much will LAL offer him?
Lets say for a 2 year contract.
Just wondering how much LAL fans think he's worth.

he'll be traded by the deadline.
imho he is worth ~$10mil/2 years with team option for year 2

He doesn't fit the system... He will be traded by Feb 20th... We can't move forward with Kobe $23.5 & Pau $10 taking half of our payroll...

I have a feeling he will be traded for Kevin Love by the trade deadline.. It will have to include a third team perhaps Memphis..and he is with a good 10mil at this point in his career.

What would Memphis give up to make it enticing for the Wolves? I would like for this to happen but just don't see it.

Zach + Jordan Hill and Pick from Memphis could make it happen... Wolves will lose him for nothing if they don't deal him to the Lakers..and this would be the best way to make it happen.

What would Memphis get? Pau and who else?

Why would the Wolves trade Love?

Fairly sure he'll be traded. L.A. has the potential to add Carmelo in the off-season plus draft a top lottery pick this year. Pau would get in the way of that. Pau could bring in a middle to late first rounder that would be a part of building a bench for a Kobe-Melo-Draft pick squad.

Memphis would do it to get the Gasol's on the same team and kill Zach's 18mil next year. I think they would do it for only Pau in return and maybe some second rounders or getting something like Kaman involved..

Love will be leaving Minny in 2015 .. That's for sure...he wants to be in LA ..so no other team is going to want to give up assets for him in any trade scenario... advantage Lakers!

I see your point...very similar to the D12 situation in Orlando.
I still think Minny will hold onto Love as long as they can....they'll most likely continue to try and add pieces and hope Love stays with them.

Re: Pau's new contract. How much will LAL offer him?
Don't bet on Pau being traded... If the potential to ad someone significant or a high draft pick, along with cap savings presents itself, maybe he gets traded but I don't think it happens just for cap relief... I think they'd just try to extend him on the cheap before they did that.
I think we'd pay him 2/10m... I don't know if he'd accept that...
But I thought Kobe would be on a 2/15M deal, so what do I know.

Pau consistently gives up more points then he puts up.
In what world are these numbers you guys are throwing out there justified?

the ol' make it a 3 team trade to try to mask how much of a rip off it is strategy, this is a popular technique on the trade board.

Re: Pau's new contract. How much will LAL offer him?
Whether he gets traded or not depends on who's willing to offer a first round draft pick.
There may be a team on the brink of contention who would be willing to take him.
In a way this is sad to see, because he truly has been a perfect compliment to Kobe's game.
But their partnership as a legitimate due has run its course.
I may be the only Laker fan who thinks this way but I like how Mitch is handling this situation.
They will wait and see if someone gives them what they want (draft picks, cap relief).
If not, they'll wait till the end of the year and either let him walk if they can sign a star FA or they may even offer him a 1-2 year contract if they feel he'd fit in with the new FA and Kobe.
I think they'll go for a FA in summer of 2014 and go after Love in 2015.

Re: Pau's new contract. How much will LAL offer him?
A few things here...
For one Pau isn't worth the 8-12 mil range, anybody thinking that is delusional.
Second, there will be no trading of Love from the Wolves at such a premature time. It has absolutely no benefit to the Wolves. Why would the Wolves trade him now and his player option is for the summer of 2015 ? The Wolves would have more leverage if they go into next season and gauge the assets they can get then. Every team cant' pull off what the Jazz did in the D-Will situation, trading him a year and a half earlier in his deal furthermore letting another team worry about his extension.
As you guys can see, league GM's are already trying to weaken the Lakers chances by blurting out the Love to the Lakers stuff every chance they get. The process behind this thought is that other teams can give up more valuable assets now than the Lakers can. Which in all honesty is true, but it's a tactic used by any means to keep him from getting here.
Now if Love pulls the Melo card and states his desired destination that's the only way the Wolves are weakened. All this means is that the Wolves would trade him now if that were the case because the writing would be on the wall that they couldn't resign him. But that trade wouldn't be to the Lakers because of the lack of assets.
In short Pau is here for now, and it's no Love coming here.

Re: Pau's new contract. How much will LAL offer him?
good post DEEP except the whole GM's going out of their way to stick it to the lakers. i don't know why fans think that. teams look out for whats best for their team, has nothing to do with trying to hurt the lakers.
everything else though was spot on, lakers simply are not going to trade for love, they don't have the assets and the wolves really have no reason to anyway.

Re: Pau's new contract. How much will LAL offer him?
Well it may not be a tactic to "stick it" to the Lakers purposely but it's a back handed tool I've seen done all too often. You have to realize that a lot of teams love when the Lakers are in a down swing and they feel the only way to keep them there is to blow up any rumor of a player to the Lakers.dockingsched wrote:good post DEEP except the whole GM's going out of their way to stick it to the lakers. i don't know why fans think that. teams look out for whats best for their team, has nothing to do with trying to hurt the lakers.

Now I don't personally believe in conspiracies to keep the Lakers down, it's just that in some cases it was so obvious what the objective was. And yes teams have to guard their own interest, and if the Lakers don't figure in to making that team better with future development ( such as the 2008 trade with Memphis ) then they have every right not to deal with them.
