Before i ask this question i want to let everyone know that i barely watch soccer nor know how transfer fees and such work.

My question: Why couldn't we go after bigger names like Rooney, Messi, or Ronaldo? In the end doesn't money talk? If they wanted to couldn't MLSE offer a crap load of money to the player and club and try and get one of the above players signed?

ronaldo/messi /rooney are players in their primes that make absolutely ridiculous money over in europe , TFC and other MLS teams can't match that money along with the prestige and level of play in those leagues. Lebron/Durant/Curry/ Dwight won't be going to europe to play basketball and its the same situation.

To put it as simply as possible. Transfer fees are prices teams pay other teams to have one of their players. The new team is also responsible for their wages as well. So technically, every player is available throughout the world, they all have different values though.

It would be like if the Cavs sold Lebron to the Heat for $100M and the Heat then pay his yearly contract.

A guy like Messi or Ronaldo would cost a team $100M+ plus their yearly extremely expensive contracts. MLS teams have money, but not that much.

As said earlier, it would be like Lebron leaving Miami for an average Europe team.

Idk where a lot of these comments are coming from or what point is trying to be made, but,
Bradley was the 4th center mid on the depth chart...for a team that starts 3 center mids. in other words, he was the first midfielder off the bench. This changed to him being the 5th center mid on the chart only a week ago when they got Nainggolan.

The MLS is absolutely some second tier league.

Bradley was a good player in a top league. He started regularly at Chievo when they were comfortably middle of the table. He was a solid contributor for Roma last year..he would have been again this year if Nainggolan chose one of the other top italian clubs over Roma, or if he didn't miss much of the 1st half of this season with injury. Nothing shameful about not starting over De Rossi, Pjanic, or Strootman.

It is a nice feeling to know Bradley has officially joined the team as well. TFC beat out Columbus, SKC and Philadelphia to sign him.

A reliable italian source says that Toronto FC is interested in Daniele Cacia. For those who don't know him he is a forward, actually playing for Verona. Not exactly a game changer in Serie A but a pretty good scorer when he played in the second league.

Crazy, this is the first I have heard of this.

I can't imagine how we could afford him. We'll see.

Local sources are claiming the deal is done and is possibly a 3-year deal.

How is TFC doing all this within the cap?

Midfield looks alright with Jackson, Kyle Bekker, & Jeremy Hall but it looks a whole lot better if they can somehow keep Laba.

Defense is still really lacking for TFC but has a couple of bright spots in Justin Morrow, Ashtone Morgan & Steven Caldwell.

Depth Chart as it stands.

Toronto FC's Depth Chart (28 players):

Goalkeepers: Joe Bendik, Chris Konopka, Quillan Roberts

Right Backs: Mark Bloom, Ryan Richter, Richard Eckersley***

Left Backs: Justin Morrow, Ashtone Morgan, Jonas Elmer

Center Backs: Steven Caldwell, Doneil Henry, Gale Agbossoumonde

Center Mids: Michael Bradley, Jackson, Kyle Bekker, Jeremy Hall, Matias Laba***

Left Mids:

Right Mids: Alvaro Rey, Reggie Lambe

Attacking Mids: Dwayne De Rosario, Jonathan Osorio, Manny Aparicio

Forwards: Jermain Defoe, Gilberto, Bright Dike, Andrew Wiedeman, Emery Welshman, Jordan Hamilton

** Likely not with TFC next season so moved to the end of the depth chart.

I've also read there is interest in him. Idk if TFC could have any money available after the transfers they've already made but I don't think it would cost them that much...he has only featured in a handful of games this year and is like 30 or 31 yrs old.
Doesn't mean he wouldn't be good though, he was Serie B leading scorer last year which is always pretty impressive

Cacia is a bench move. It likely means that Earnshaw has rejected the new contract offer - as was expected.

I've also heard that Dike may not around next year either, but we will see. I think Cacia is a good bench move. Experienced striker who had an Inzaghi like scoring rate last year in the Serie B.

I re-listened to the press conference and the one-on-one sit down with GOL TV; Defoe never mentioned those words

Looks like Bradley Orr is also on his way to TFC

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/25797923
Blackburn Rovers defender Bradley Orr is set to complete a year-long loan move to Major League Soccer side Toronto.

The 31-year-old will join England striker Jermain Defoe and USA international Michael Bradley at the Canadian side.

[...]

Orr will move on loan until December, with a view to a permanent switch. [...]

The Bradley Orr loan is a fantastic move. An experienced player in a position we need depth.

TFC is really putting the team together well this season. Crazy what a good management team can do.
