Re: Wittman Poll
He has taken this team as far as he can. It's time to bring in an A list coach. Our young players aren't developing properly and we have no set rotation.

Re: Wittman Poll
I think the Wittman situation is somewhat similar to the Hanlon situation with the caps. They need that HC change (along with some roster retooling) to break through.

Not many A-List coaches are available in the middle of the season. I see no way for the team to fire Wittman without firing EG along with him. And that's not going to happen until the offseason.

What was Newman's focus with SA? Outside of Karl, who are the other names out there?
I wonder if they're waiting on Thibs this offseason? Problem is Ernie probably sticks with him....

Right, if they fire Wittman now it will be Ed Tapscott walking through that door, not Phil Jackson. If it's Newman, isn't that a sign that Grunfeld is staying?

Re: Wittman Poll
If Wittman had showed any ability to make adjustments, I would cut him some slack and hope that maybe he figures it out. But it's become so obvious that he is utterly unaware of the ineffectiveness of his coaching, and instead resorts to blaming the players after every loss.
Hey Randy, protip: if your team regularly has problems creating and converting shots, that probably has something to do with you designing the offense around inefficient shots.
If your excuse after every game is "we just didn't make shots", you need to go back to the drawing board.

The availability of coaches right now include Stan Van Gundy, Lionel Hollins, George Karl, Nate McMillan, and Jeff Van Gundy. I think the Wizards should wait it out until the s season is over and if they decide to fire EG.

45 games left roughly. Can't keep delaying the the coaching search. All we're doing is delaying the inevitable and sacrificing quality development time. SVG and Karl are good options. If Ernie is an impediment to any of these guys then fire him and promote Sheppard.

It's times like these that make me wish the wizards had a trigger-happy owner like Dan Snyder. EG and Randy would be gone and Dan would spend as much money necessary to bring in a good coach and GM.

Re: Wittman Poll
To be honest, I wouldn't want a HOF-caliber coach to work with this team until the off-season when they have the time to carefully and meticulously put together tailored schemes and systems that work. Plus, I wouldn't want EG making any long-term choices right now. After this season, I want there to be no evidence that he was ever our GM.

This thread is a waste of time. The root of the problem is clearly Ted and EG, knocking off Whitttman does little to change the team. Ted is a worse owner than Snyder.

Disagree, I'd rather have a coach come in now, have 45 games plus maybe the playoffs to evaluate what he has, and then have input going into an offseason where half the roster is expiring and we have cap space.

You're right about that. We probably should wait until the off season and fire Witt and EG. But if we have a chance to get SVG, Hollins, or George Karl during the season, we need to do it.

Re: Wittman Poll
Wondering what it is specifically about Wittman that convinces people he deserves to be fired? Given this roster, I doubt there's a coach alive who could make an appreciable difference to this team's win percentage. Firing him now would be dumb. If Ted feels obliged to shake things up, EG is about ten times more deserving. In fact, firing Wittman over EG would be just ... weird. Maybe both should go, but firing a GM AND coach mid-season is unprecendented (or at least I can't recall if it's ever been done).

Re: Wittman Poll
I'd prefer to fire Wittman now. I don't want to see making the playoffs and getting blown out in the first round be enough to validate his job for next year.
But I don't see how you can replace him with a good coach mid season. It'd be an interim hire, and then knowing Ted, that interim coach would get the job in the summer.
In an ideal world, we'd let both him and Grunfeld walk this summer, get a good GM, and conduct a thorough search to unearth the next talented, hungry young coach.
And then in that ideal worth, that new FO would see value in Wall, Beal, and Porter and figure out how to build around them and develop them rather than fire-saleing off the whole roster and putting us back into the tank...
I'm not optimistic any of that stuff is going to happen.
What I expect is for us to make the playoffs and lose in the first round and then Ted will sell that as progress and Ernie and Wittman will get short extensions. And they'll bring back this roster for next season to see if we can get more out of it next year. And we probably will get marginally better results with this exact same group next year because Wall, Beal, and Porter will each be a year older and Nene and Gortat haven't hit the end of the line yet.
But we'll still be far away from actually contending. And we'll still be wondering how or if it will ever come together for us.

Seems similar in that both in the Witt and EG polls at least 70% want both gone now.

Even if they make the playoffs (and the more I see, the more I conclude even in the weak ass east, that's no certainty) this team probably won't do anything important this year, and I doubt a mid-season coaching change will dramatically alter their long term fortunes. Might give them a little hope and distract them for a minute.
Having EG as GM through the end of the season hurts the team much more. Sorry pretenders, but EG doesn't do anything particularly well, does a few things consistently badly, and his back's to the wall. There's nothing more dangerous than a cornered moron. It doesn't matter who the coach is, EG's still going to pick his nose on camera, and Wall's psyche will be permanently shattered.
