Re: Andrew Bynum
I see both sides of the Bynum signing but Riley needs to make a choice. Either he believes Oden is on way back to solid form or he signs Bynum. Right now, our front line outside of Bird/Bosh is pretty sad. Lewis isn't a PF and shouldn't play. UD can scrap with the best but is down right terrible. Joel? HA! The same way, Indy is looking at Bynum is the exact reason why we should be looking? Could you imagine Hibbert and then Bynum? For all "Bynum shouldn't scare us", just remember about Hibbert being 12-9 vs others and what he does vs our Small Ball.
Oden vs. Bynum...Where you putting your money?

Part of the reson smallball worked was Battier playing well allowed us to substitute size with talent with fit.
Problem is :
1)the fit factor isn't as strong since our main rivals now have a strong scoring big man that hurts Battier inside, we're not "getting away with it" like we used to, the matchup isn't working in our favor any more.
2)Battier slowing down and sucking means we're not really getting more talent on the floor, we're just getting smaller with him playing.
Basically playing a slightly below average Center isn't really a step down in talent compard to playing Battier, because one can argue Battier is a below average player himself these days (same goes to Lewis).
So it would makes sense to switch to Bigball/Normallball/real Center at this point in time.
The issue with Bynum is Simple - He's just not the type of Center that would make the switch natural for us. Not in skillset (he's offensive minded, we need a defensive Center, He's slow and lazy, we need a quick and active Center, He's not even rebounding well for a Center this year, we need a great rebounder, He's a low character player, We're a serious high character club). I guarantee that If it was any other decent Center, even a less talented ones but ones that were a better fit (Guys like Kosta Koufos, Anderson Varejao for example) Pat would have been all over them already. The bad fit on paper is what makes Bynum a question mark in some people eyes.
Still, taking everything into consideration and seeing how tired and old some of our players are looking, Bynum is gamble worth taking at this point IMO. Playing him small minutes could help him play harder and with more energy, a talk with Riley could make him act like less of douche. Playing him with Birdman and Oden as a 3 headed Center rotation could bring the best of the 3 of them, keep them fresh and motivated. The only "risk" is a small financial one, and that's not enough IMO for us to pass on him.
Let's see if Pat Riley agrees.
Small ball gave us lots of joy thats clear and i see that. But other teams got it know. Heck , even spurs last year adapted to our small ball. We need a backup plan for small ball. We can still use it alot of minutes in the game but we have to go big sometimes. Its no coincidence that one of your best defensive lineup is bosh+chris anderson..we need bynum , he will do better for us than hurt us.

there is no vs. Oden can't play enough, i can only see him giving us very limited and nerve wrecking minutes, he's not proven. We need both

He'd get eaten alive. At this point Beasley is not a good defender for us. He's more of a instant offense guy. However I have seen signs of improvement on the defensive end in some games notably when he went up against Millsap and kept him in check in crunch time.

Race to sign Andrew Bynum starts slow
http://espn.go.com/blog/marc-stein/post ... slows-down
The fact that no team, including teams that need a Center, seems to be jumping on him should calm down our panicky ballboys.

Feeling like all this talk, out of the blue, of Indiana's sudden interest is a case of Bynum's agent trying his level best to force Riley's hand in hopes of getting his client down to Miami.

I dont think so. They can use bynum since its their dna play to the post. Put that together with cutting a big man from us and you got the perfect formula..

Well thats because people dont want to waste money and he doesnt make them much better. Providing he only wants to play in a contender. Or maybe he doesnt care where he plays , just goes for the better bid

Re: Andrew Bynum
Bynum isn't as athletic and mobile as he was and he was never an elite defensive player.
Seems just like a guy to throw it into the post 5 times a game because we already know on defense he would have to come out on screens and rotate back to the basket and seriously...
We know he can't do that.

Re: Andrew Bynum
Bynum would be extremely valuable if his only impact was drawing 2 quick fouls in 2 separate games on Hibbert in a playoff series and also being able to keep Hibbert off the boards for 20 minutes per game.
Having Hibbert with foul trouble let's the Heat sit Bynum on the bench, which makes the offense much more effective (both by not having Hibbert protecting the lane and not having Bynum clogging the lane), and not having Hibbert get 15 boards is huge in limiting Indiana's scoring chances.

Nobody doubts that Bynum is very talented on the court, but he has attitude problems just like Shaq did in Miami and I don't think Riley wants a repeat of that again.

The Miami Heat are not expected to pursue Andrew Bynum in free agency, according to a source.
The Heat have been working hard with Greg Oden in order to get him healthy enough to play in the playoffs.
