If Ted feels obliged to shake things up, EG is about ten times more deserving. In fact, firing Wittman over EG would be just … weird. Maybe both should go, but firing a GM AND coach mid-season is unprecendented (or at least I can't recall if it's ever been done).

Even if they make the playoffs (and the more I see, the more I conclude even in the weak ass east, that's no certainty) this team probably won't do anything important this year, and I doubt a mid-season coaching change will dramatically alter their long term fortunes. Might give them a little hope and distract them for a minute.

Having EG as GM through the end of the season hurts the team much more. Sorry pretenders, but EG doesn't do anything particularly well, does a few things consistently badly, and his back's to the wall. There's nothing more dangerous than a cornered moron. It doesn't matter who the coach is, EG's still going to pick his nose on camera, and Wall's psyche will be permanently shattered.

Wall's psyche permanently shattered? Whah? huh? Is this a "thing"? I'm not following the narrative here.

A sort of bookend to various implications of, "If we don't get rid of Wittman now, Wall's game will be permanently… etc." If Wall's as good as I hope he is, he'll overcome the bad players, coaches, and GMs of his past, but Wall's no idiot. He knows he needs a new GM.

I don't want a new coaching coming in and mucking things up by getting to the playoffs and saving Ernie's job.

I like how things are going now. Witt and the roster are self destructing. We've been non-competitive in significant parts of 4 of our last 5 games. Even gifted with an ideal situation in the East, Ernie & Witt are finding it hard to stay afloat and that's with a healthy roster.

Wittman should be let go at the same time as Grunfeld. Ideally, that would be right now, 10:57 PM on 1/12/2014. But realistically, Grunfeld is going to be around through the end of the season, so I don't see why we shouldn't hang on to Wittman until then as well.

If we absolutely feel the need to let Wittman go now, then we should just promote an assistant as an interim, with absolutely zero intention of keeping them long term, and let the new GM pick our real next coach this offseason.

If for some asinine reason, Grunfeld is brought back after the season ends, then who gives a flying **** who our coach is.

Imagine Phil Jackson coming out of retirement because turning an EG assembled team into a contender was the only challenge left for him.

Would rather wait till the offseason. If you do it now, I feel that will alienate a lot of players from management. We have a decent core of players, whom from what I understand respond strongly toward Wittman.

I'd rather just ride Wittman to a hopeful playoff spot, likely get swept depending on seed, tell him thanks for the couple years but we're going to go in another direction, and then let the search begin.

Hmmm, getting closer to 60/40 to get rid of him now - not enough of a consensus one way or the other.

Not like with EG... vast majority wants him gone now.

dckingsfan, I think you're misreading the poll. It's 60/40 to get rid of him NOW, as opposed to getting rid of him in June.
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

Bringing in Karl is a great idea.....could have a huge impact on the team. I'll never forget the huge turnaround the Grizzlies had years ago when they brought in Hubie Brown after 15 games or so.

Correct... 57 percent now - 43 percent later... large majority to get rid of him either now or at the end of the season.

I was just expecting a larger majority to get rid of him now.

76 percent want EG gone now.

Wouldn't rather have Hollins... I guess either Hollins or Karl would want a multi-year contract. I guess I would still rather have my GM first and have the two on the same page.

It is down slightly for immediate firing. However both are far less popular than the luv-a-bulls.

So very true - especially since it is now basically 50/50 on getting rid of Witt mid-season.

Based upon this casual pole, I would say Witt will be around through the end of the season.

I will go out on a limb and say that he will be around unless EG is terminated.
