Like Spo, Lebron and Wade have said over and over and over, he stretches the big man out of the paint allowing for Lebron and Wade to drive and score. Without Bosh scoring or not the bigs would sit in the paint all day long and we would have a lot of trouble scoring.

If we can't remove the big man from the paint not only will we not be able to score efficiently from the paint, the wing defenders won't have to collapse giving our shooters no room. Things would just break down on every level.

Erik Spoelstra has long referred to LeBron James as the Miami HEAT’s ‘One Through Five’ – trusted to play and defend any position at any time – but with increasing regularity over the past year Spoelstra has been using the same moniker when discussing Chris Bosh. It’s no secret that the HEAT employ a hyper aggressive defensive style, relying on speed and length to manufacture chaos and turnovers, and even though the notion still appears to be a revelation in some corners of the internet the system doesn’t work without Bosh being able to both cover huge swaths of real estate and capably stay in front of the ball no matter where it lands.

Bosh may not have scored in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, but without his defense that night there’s no champagne, no parade and no rings. Though he hasn’t escaped Miami’s bouts with defensive stagnancy during this regular season, no HEAT player leaves more of a defensive void when he hits the bench. With Bosh on the floor, Miami’s defense has been playing with Top-10 efficiency. With Bosh sitting, the team drops below average.

^ you realize that's like a 5 spots drop, right?

Not that impressive considering we don't really have any other decent bigs except Bird and he's not playing big minutes. I still believe that if we gave Joel minutes the defensive on court/off court gap would have been greater then that.

Bosh is decent defenfer and all but I feel some Heat fans started overstating his defensive powers lately. Yea he's decent on the P&R but he tends t float around, doesn't always bring the energy, not a good defensive rebounder which hurts us, not strong enough to handle true Centers, not big enough or tough enough to really clog the paint.

He's a decent defender considering he's really a scoring PF at heart, but he doesn't bring nearly the defensive impact of a true Center like Chandler/Hibbert/Noah type. Not really his fault, he's playing out of position.
