You can only acquire true talent through the draft or free agency (trades don't count because you have to give up talent to get talent). Since we clearly do not believe in building through the draft, then our only option is free agency.

Very recent history refutes that. The other prominent option is taking a flyer on guys who are questionable with talent that don't have high market value that you can hopefully coach something out of

I wonder how much Gay will consider opting out of his final year to seek a long term deal with Sac? Few reasons:

$19M is a lot but I'm sure Rudy's age will cross his mind. At his age he has two lucrative contracts left to sign in his NBA career. Looking at his age of the second contract could motivate Gay to get a new deal sooner rather than later.

Gay may also consider his value is currently high is Sac. A new year could hold many variables that hurt his value. Fear of the unkown?

Of course other reasons lie with being an awesome person and helping your team lower their cap #'s but I'm sure that's a non factor...

Anyway, what's your over/under % Gay opts out to resign with Sac?

Gay will not opt out. His agent would jump off a building if he did. hahaha.

That's an interesting point. I remember Richard Jefferson did that a few years ago and people thought he was crazy, but it's actually not a terrible idea.

EDIT: Granted, Jefferson wasn't making 19 mil.

for presumably 5-6 mil? Idk. Argument can be made 4yr-$52M > 1yr-$19.... just sayin. I think the odds are low of him opting out but I bet the idea will be discussed.

What does Joel Anthony's contract look like? For some reason when I heard that he had been traded to Boston I immediately thought about how we're looking for a interior prescence like him to anchor the defense and with the Rondo rumors...forgive me if it seems like I'm reaching

He will seek an extension in the off season. Will be like 3 year 45 or 4 year 60 with player option. I could see our front office paying him on a similar 3 year term as long as he stays this consistent.

I think and extension is a good idea if possible but I think the Kings will let him enter free agency after next year. The Kings are set to have a ton of money and if they can dump JT they can almost clear the decks.

Return to Sacramento Kings
