Western Conference vs Eastern Conference

Post#1 » by Wizenheimer » Thu Jan 16, 2014 6:36 pm

real interesting chart of current & end-of-season Strength of Schedules

kind of ridiculous where the conference teams end up based upon the current won-loss records:

it will probably change a little as the stronger EC teams fatten up their records against the EC tanking crowd, but still, 1-15 = WC & 16-30 = EC sure looks like a stacked deck, both directions

Portland has had the benefit of an easier schedule which basically means they so far have played more EC teams.

the "brick wall" comes quickly. Their next four games are a pair of road B2B's and is a 4-games-in-5-nights stretch:

@ San Antonio Spurs
@ Dallas Mavericks
@ Houston Rockets
@ Oklahoma City Thunder

after those 4 games, the incline of their SOS line on that chart will be quite a bit less

I dont get this chart at all. Teams with hard schedules on one side have easy schedules on the other.

Left side is how hard their schedule has been up to now
Right side is how hard their remaining schedule is

and what you said isn't always true (see Indiana, Detroit, LAL)

The dots on the left side is teams SOS to this point in the season. The dots on the right side are the teams SOS for the rest of the season. The lower the dot, the easier the schedule, the higher the dot, the harder the schedule. Pretty straight forward.

Raps will get the 3rd seed lol. Happy that Utah, Sac and Orlando have an easier schedule now, but am worried about the Lakers... If they get the first pick I will be really frustrated.

Thanks for sharing this, looks like the Suns are going to be in for a bit of a struggle, especially with Bledsoe out and the difficulty of our SOS the rest of the way.

Going to be interesting to see if we make any moves before the trade deadline.

What a nonsense chart... really, I can make graphs and diagrams about most things about information (it is my job) and this sort of thing makes my skin crawl.

Detroit will likely be out of the playoff picture and be replaced by the Knicks, which I definitely see happening :D The right side just shows that there will be more intra-conference games played in the remainder of the season. Boston can make a jump if they decide not to tank when Rondo returns, and Brooklyn might climb the steps up to the 6th seed depending on how Chicago or Atlanta does.

Seems odd that Indiana's to-date and remaining SOS are both so low and the same rank. I'm sure some of that is from having the best record in the league while playing in a really bad conference, but you'd think the SOS would trend upwards for the rest of the season like Miami's did.

I'm not a big fan of the whole strength of schedule thing. If you're a bad team you have a harder schedule not because the other teams are better, but because you suck. Vice-versa.

GSW schedule was a lot tougher than it was seen in the chart. Few EC games and few home games.
Everyone underrated Kobe's ego and just thought he would be Paul Pierce when Garnett and Allen joined, instead he went Black Mamba and turned Dwight into Kwame and Nash into Smush.

Already got two wins in the trip I cant see the blazers winning less than 54 games

Also the raptors look super legit ( for a 3rd seed  ) especially since most of the tanking begins later and a lot of the east is terrible
