Memphis scares the sh*t out of me, they're playing great and got back to being the elite defensive team they've been the past few years. They are the 3rd best defense since the beggining of the year and this year they have Lee and Miller who can shoot from outside without hurting their defense too much. Johnson has been awesome for them as well.

They are very likely to upset whoever they face in the 1st round, and it kind of frightens me that we are getting closer to the 2nd seed just while they're getting near that 7th :-?

Don't worry we won't get top 2.

3-4 is likely spot .

On other hand they can get to 5-6;(

Yeah I actually wanted to say we can get the 3rd and they can get the 6th seed, but with the way the Spurs and Blazers are free falling, I wouldn't be surprised if we end 2nd.

I definitely want to play them but not in the 1st round. My ideal bracket is playing the Warriors or the Rockets in the 1st round, the Grizzlies in the 2nd, and the Thunder in the WCF. I am confident we can get all the way there if that's the path and everyone's healthy and peaking at the right time.

Anthony Davis, Michael Carter-Williams, Trey Burke, Bradley Beal, Harrison Barnes, Pero Antic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Steven Adams, Andrew Drummond, Tim Hardaway Jr., Terrence Jones, Damian Lillard, Victor Oladipo, Kelly Olynyk, Mason Plumlee, Jared Sullinger, Jonas Valanciunas and Dion Waiters have been named to the Rising Stars Challenge.

That has to be the worst crop of players for this game ever. Apart from Davis, Lillard, and Drummond I'd be surprised if anyone else here ever becomes an all-star. I like MCW, Beal, Barnes, Oladipo, and Burke, but this game doesn't touch previous ones.

2013 had Lillard, Davis, Drummond, Beal, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Kemba Walker, Isaiah Thomas, Ricky Rubio, Kawhi Leonard, Kenneth Faried, Chandler Parsons...

2012 had Blake, Cousins, Paul George, John Wall, Greg Monroe, Rubio, Favors, Lin, Evan Turner...

2011 was a great one. Blake, Wall, Bled, Cousins, Monroe, Gary Neal, Favors on one team and Steph Curry, Harden, Ibaka, Jrue Holiday, Tyreke Evans, DeRozan, Wesley Matthews on the other.

Right and Wrong

Post#1298 » by Ranma » Sat Feb 8, 2014 9:19 pm

The contrast between Sam Presti and Chris Grant is striking. Yes, luck plays a part in drafting well particularly with draft years, but so does competence in making the most out of situations. Presti made the most out of his draft picks while Grant has been a colossal failure despite being gifted with the Kyrie Irving pick. Another key point that's been missed is the development of those draft picks, which this SI article below captures perfectly. A good read and one I hope Doc Rivers takes to heart.

Ian Thomsen, Sports Illustrated (2/7/14)
So many teams that are rebuilding through the draft think of their losing years as a lost time that must be suffered like a plague. For Presti and Brooks in Oklahoma City, for Larry Bird and his coaches at Indiana, and for other teams that have built up through the draft, the years of losing are not a waste of time. They become years of investment, during which the GM and coach establish, under stress, how they will behave when they are on top of the league.

It is the secret of rebuilding. If they don't focus on their daily work as if they're winning already, then they never will win.

The approach of Brooks when his team was 3-29 is the same as his approach now that they're pursuing a second NBA Finals in three years. Jackson and Lamb and rookie Steven Adams are benefiting from the same daily regimen of intensive work that made stars out of Westbrook and Harden when few saw the potential in them.

How Grant, Cavs botched the Thunder's blueprint

Portland and Phoenix both lost tonight. Only 1 game behind Portland with a meeting tomorrow. A win ties up the season series and our division leader status would give us the tiebreaker for 3rd place. That would be really nice to have that entering into the break.
