I don't know why people are calling the voter's fadigue. LeBron is a better and more proven player? Sure. Durant is having a better season? Clearly. That's it. It's not like he's Derrick Rose that won the MVP on narrative with 4 or 5 players having better statistical seasons than him.

Durant's team is having a better record, with a worse supporting cast. LeBron can loose Wade, but he's still got Bosh to take pressure away from him, and the 9th best 3pt shooting team in the league vs the OKC Thunder, the 23rd and Westbrook-less.

These are the players having better seasons than Durant:

I'd like to give some love to Blake Griffin, he's the best big man in the NBA right now and has carried the Clippers without CP3.

Lebron's season has been disappointed for me! I don't know if it is question of fatigue or he is coasting, but his assists are down. He is the true PG of his team and 6 assists are a bit few for him! he also averaged only 6 rebounds and a player with his size and strenght should average at least 8 rebounds! even his turnovers are up :( his BS and steals are down!
The thing that most worries me of Lebron is that we are already half of the season and he has ZERO triple double! on the Cavs days and even the first 3 seasons with Miami he was able to have 5-6 triple double per season!

As stated in the lebron thread on the PC board he always starts off with mid-high 3 turnovers a game ( last season being an aberration ) also if his team is truly playing more unselfishly than it makes sense that his assists are down because guys are making the extra pass.

Also lance stephenson has more triple doubles than lebron doesnt indicate he's a more complete player

This is incorrect.

LeBron has never had a regular season with more than 4 triple doubles as a member of the Heat. In 2010-2011, he had 4. In 2011-2012 (the season they beat the Thunder for the title), he didn't have any triple-doubles. Last year, he had four.

1. Durant
2. LeBron

No one else is in the conversation.

Basically, the guys left about 100 triple doubles on the table in his career.

Is there a "near triple-double" stat or way to calculate that without going through each season's game-log? I think I saw a few weeks back posters were mentioning the amount of near one's LeBron's had.

I'd be interested in seeing those numbers for him, Kidd, Magic, Jordan, etc.

On another note Durant deserves the MVP this year no doubt. He is playing at an insane high level right now and even if he doesn t keep this which he probably doesn t he is still the clear cut favorite to win the award.

LeBron's had 87 games with at least 9 in each category: http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... der_by=pts

He's had 47 triple-doubles, so I guess that's 40 "near triple-doubles." In 30 of those he had 10+ in two categories and 9 in the other.

Not quite as good as Curry's 54/6/7/3/87% TS against NY last year.

Right now KD is in the lead but we still have alot of basketball left. Just takes Lebron to have an insane game or Miami to go on a large winning streak to spice things up again. KD got a huge lift for his performance last night and right now we are in the reaction stage. If Lebron out duels KD in the next matchup and KD starts tiring out then we could have one of the closest MVP races weve had in a long while. Still a long way to go though. I personally think KD will keep it up and probably win his first MVP this year.

KD is the clear-cut choice for MVP so far, but I don't think you can argue he's surpassed (or will any time soon) LeBron as the best player in the league just yet. At this point, the regular season just isn't nearly as important for LeBron as it is for Durant. He's been in the league for 4 more years, he's 3-4 years older, and he's coming off back to back championships. He's clearly in cruise control mode, but despite the fact his numbers are down from where they usually are in most categories (although not by THAT much) he's still shooting a ridiculous 59 percent from the field. So it's not as if he's been struggling, he's just been coasting a little. Who knows if that will change in the second half, but either way I feel it's KD's time and he's clearly placing a lot more importance on the regular season than LeBron. Why shouldn't he? He's yet to win a single MVP, LeBron's been there and done that 4 times.

I still think LeBron is in a class by himself and is the best player in the world by a fair margin. That might change in a few years but not for now IMO. I think it's kind of like when Jordan lost out on the MVP to Barkley and then Malone a few years later. Just because he wasn't the MVP, doesn't mean he wasn't still the best player in the league.

For sure, even if KD wins the MVP it does not mean for 1 second lebrons MVP days are done. Gun on my head year in year out, until Bron shows a decline he'll be the favourite for that award....along with KD of course.

The MVP race right now is a clear battle between LeBron James and Kevin Durant. Paul George and LaMarcus Aldridge are trailing behind closely. Chris Paul has fallen quite a bit since his injury. Kevin Love has the numbers but doesn't have the wins to back them up. You could say the same thing about Carmelo Anthony too.
