I don't trust him at all. It's time to move on already. If we give him another contract he could just go back to crap and he misses a week of games everytime he stubs his toe.

Re: Rodney Stuckey. Keep him or Trade him?
Smart money would be to trade him now when his value is at the highest peak it's going to get.
It's no coincidence that he's stepped up his play just as he's playing for a new contract. It's been mutually beneficial for Detroit, and they should capitalize on it by trading him for a young player or pick now.
Joe Dumars won't. He'll resign him in the summer, and Stuckey will go back to normal and enjoy his last notable contract.

Re: Rodney Stuckey. Keep him or Trade him?
He won't be traded because Detroit is trying to eek into the 8th seed to get swept out of the first round - and that can't happen without Stuckey on the roster. I mean we deal Stuckey and have what off the bench? Bynum, crippled Billups and Siva?
Not to mention KCP will hit the rookie wall soon.

We should trade him for Ariza, but if we can't trade him then we definately need to make sure that we don't extend him.

If Detroit could acquire aseets or a player who will help this team, I might consider it. I can't see teams offering alot for him at this time. Hie expiring is worth more than he could bring back in a trade right now.

Re: Rodney Stuckey. Keep him or Trade him?
He's average at damn near everything for a guard, even size. And he's a combo. He's probably the most average guard in the league. But we're pretty thin and weak in the backcourt, so I wouldn't be shocked if he's back at the right price.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Re: Rodney Stuckey. Keep him or Trade him?
I'd only trade him if he's part of a mega deal. I don't think he'd net us any kind of of upgrade by himself. As to resigning him I think him and Joe are gone after this year.

Like some of the previous posters I think if we trade him it shouldn't be just settling... his cap $s next year could net a better player than we could trade for... I like going into the summer with some flexibility.
I think RS has exceeded all expectations this year... thankfully he's not the waste that most thought he would be... for a team with quality shooters Stuckey could be the perfect fit.

what do you guys think of that?
dan2314 wrote:Ive really enjoyed how stuckey has played lately, but wilson chandler would be perfect. his value is probably a little higher than stuckeys, but i feel like that could be a good starting point.. denver could use the financial flexibility of trading chandlers 3 yr deal for an expiring considering they appear to be simply battling to narrowly make the playoffs, and i feel will likely just miss.
also, stuckey could be a decent fit... i understand that nate, lawson, and miller are all already undersized players there who need minutes, some of them at the 2, but stuckey could be great help in getting more shots at the rim, complimenting a lot of the shooters typically at the 1-3 in denver, and would theoretically make sense in an increased tempo.
i doubt denver is too keen to let go of chandler, but this would be pretty big for detroit. chandler would come off the bench as a key sixth man, pushing one of the bigs out early to make it a more conventional lineup (like singler is doing atm), while being a solid scoring option and being capable of stretching the floor to a certain extent.
ive put this together..

Stuckey, Singler, Bynum, Jerebko
for
Chandler, A.Miller, Arthur, JHam
its tough to gauge the value when youre trading players from the team you follow closely to another one you dont watch as much, so im not entirely sure, but it doesnt seem too bad to me.
Singler keeps denver decent at SF, and is someone i doubt Dumars really wants to move just yet, but he should have decent value, while not being a star so it also allows denver to continue to have a look at quincy miller, with gallinari still coming back. theyve been looking to move andre miller for something, and detroit wouldnt mind a pass first point guard to set up some of the bigs. will bynum wont need to play every game, allowing the backcourt minutes to go to lawson, nate, foye, stuckey, but is someone that when given a chance can play well, although can play really poorly at times as well. still is reasonable insurance if any of those 4 cant play. detroit also desperately need a big that can come off the bench, because they have no one right now. arthur, who has been getting DNP's lately, i guess could be worth a shot (without having seen much at all of him this year), Hamilton ive just always liked.

trade him! it's fools gold. He'll go back to old Stuckey once the ink dries on a new contract.

Cant believe this is actually a serious topic. The only good scoring wing we have & you want to trade him lol

You're neglecting every year prior to this one- his insane inconsistency, lack of heart and motivation. He's playing for his next paycheck.
Additionally, he has been the best perimeter player for Detroit. But, how far does his contributions get this team? Getting swept in the first round by the Heat or Pacers? Or worse yet, keeping us just competitive enough to land in no-man's land of 9th or 10th in the east without a draft pick?
Catapulting Stuckey to a new team for even a late first round pick will bear much sweeter fruits.

Not 1 bit but this is the first time since his rookie year (the only other time hes been consistent) hes been consistently outstanding.
Coincidence? I think not.
& were not making the playoffs or being swept regardless behind the Josh/Jennings offense.

Re: Rodney Stuckey. Keep him or Trade him?
Being the Pistons give up their 1st rounder to Charlotte this year, trading Stuckey for nothing that helps this team now really does nothing to help the Pistons. A late 1st rounder next year will just add a young player who may or may not make or help this team.
I would rather see a player who can help this team being added AKA Wilson Chandler type or something. Because, even if the Pistons do make the playoffs then get swept, nothing is lost anyways because they didn't have a pick to use anyways.
Hence, I want to see them go on a run and make the playoffs. There is nothing gained at this point in losing for anyone within the organization and team.

Its no coincidence Stuckey is having a great year for him when hes in a contract year, isn't publicly feuding with the coach, and doesn't want want out.

This thread should be re-titled: Rodney Stuckey. Did he finally mature or is it just a contract year?

imo wilson chandler is exactly what detroit needs at the 3. great athleticism, can shoot & defend ive been sayin we should try to get em all along
