PJ Hairston is a Lottery Pick

Post#1 » by lakeshow22 » Tue Jan 21, 2014 10:43 pm

Not only is PJ Hairston the biggest sleeper in the draft, I think he should be a lottery pick. He is 1 of the best 2 guards in the draft and 1 of the best scorers in the entire draft class. He will dominate the D league and his stock will only go up. I'm not sure how his off the court issues will effect his draft stock come June, but it could play a part of him not going in the lottery. If somehow he slips to the end of the 1st round look out.

How good is he? Potential and Upside? Comparison? I see a lot of Wesley Matthews in him, maybe not quite the defender Mathews is but Hairston will be a better scorer.

He is a terrific shooter and he is strong, crazy strong.
He needs to improve his handles and shot selection, but I dont know about comparison, I think he will be way better than Matthews, and probably he is the 2nd best SG prospect in my eyes.
Better scorer than Jordan Adams, better athlete also, bigger and more explosive than Gary Harris, just more confident and aggresive than LaVine, better pure shooter than all of them.
I'm pretty high on Hairston.

It's okay, I'm pretty high in general. :burger:

I'm a Hairston fan, but let's be real. If not for having a beautiful 3 point shot, he wouldn't be a prospect. He doesn't excel at anything else - which is okay since shooting is kind of important. But it's a stretch to label him lottery worthy. He probably will put up gaudy numbers in the D League, but that means very little. Glen Rice Jr did the same last year, and he's nowhere near ready to play in the NBA.

I would pick him with a top 20 pick for sure. I wouldn't pick him in front of guys like Lavine or Harris, but I do like him as a prospect. If he can keep his off-court issues in check, he has a chance to go in the late lottery.

He's head and shoulders better than Gary Harris - he did as much in 24 minutes per game last season as Gary does in 32. Best shooter in the draft, extremely strong with the ball, finishes through contact with both hands, underrated athlete, can guard 2-3 and even played the 4 for long stretches last season. Extremely tough and tenacious defender. Natural scorer. Good size for position.

Roy Williams had him every day in practice for most of the last 4 months and said he's NEVER had a wing player so dominant. That includes Paul Pierce, Harrison Barnes, Wayne Ellington, etc etc. 2 games into the d-league and he's been unstoppable. Some team is going to get an absolute STEAL with him.

Yep. He's going to be beyond a lottery. He might even be in the top 10. Depends on if he can keep it up until the end of the season.

40 points is a great night, but you do have to use context. Pierre Jackson is averaging 31 in the NBDL. A guy like Devin Ebanks is averaging 25.

pretty rough day yesterday 1-9.

will be interesting to see how he progresses through the rest of the D-Leaugue season. I don't think he climbs into the top 15...but first rounder for sure IMO

Slow. So slow. He's in no way going top10 or lottery. He will be slotted where other slow footed, poorhandling/playmaking, but sweet-shooting guards go. In the 20-30 range.

He's consistently getting to the rim and is the best through-contact finisher to come along in a while, for a perimeter guy. Throw in unlimited range, great charge-taking skills (always drew them at UNC and doing it int he d-league too) and his generally solid D and you've got a tremendous package.

It's sad, because if he'd played the full year at UNC he'd probably be a NPOY candidate and a sure-fire lottery guy. As it in, someone is going to get an absolute steal.

Well with his D-League performances, we know he can fill it up in an empty gym.

I would not even touch him in the 1st rd, really does not look like NBA starter material. He is another guy that is 8th man and beyond material at best. Really doesn't grade out well against NBA starters.

PJ Hairston needs a regiment. Spending a year in the D-League not playing defense and chucking shots as the first option will damage his development.

Are NBA teams allowed to contact him right now?

PJ Hairston seems in great shape and a good shooter. Looks like he was having some discipline problems but most likely it has come to an end now, probably going to do everything to be on par with his teammates.
