Re: Knicks-Related Trade "THOUGHTS" Thread
Quick question...do you honestly think any team is going to engage us in trade talks that will actually make us better? If we get better, that means Melo could stay...and If I am an opposing GM, honestly if you view the history of teams trying to stick it to the Knicks..I would want Melo to leave. FOr example the Celtics, they are never trading Rondo to the Knicks...if they do ..it guarantees melo stays and the Atlantic Division will be ours for foreseeable future...Ainge if he dosnt trade ROndo...Melo prob leaves bc he wants to win now..it is in Boston's best interest to not trade Rondo..

Knicks get some younger players back and a chance to trade and stockpile assets for the future.
Melo would never sign in Sacramento.
But the Knicks may be desperate enough to do Amare for EJ/Reke or Bargs/JR/Felton for EJ Reke
Tyson
Melo
Reke/Shump
EJ/Shump/THJ
Prigs/Murry
If that team translates onto the court and stays healthy we can make it to ECF and still have Tyson/Shump/THJ to trade.
But most likely a significant number of board members would go TKF.
Do you mean New Orleans?
yes.

While your post is logically sound, you must be aware that it is defeatist.
there are teams in the Western conference that need a win now Center, there are teams that need young talent on rookie contracts, there are teams that need expiring or soon to be expiring contracts.
a smart FO can do a good job w/these type of assets.
Now all we need is a smart FO.

there are teams, as in more than one, in the nba, and they're all gonna want to make their team better. there could be instances in which a trade wouldn't make them better, and would.

Im saying is that there is no deal out there for the Knicks in which we would come out the clear winner. No one ..in a zero-sum league..will do us any favors and make a deal in which we would be better with our core. The only deals that GM's will make with us is if we blow up our roster. Meaning we deal Chandler or Melo..or send out THjr+shump+ picks. That is just a reality. No body in the East will trade us a piece that will "save our season" bc again if that happens.. Melo has a higher prob of staying..and if I am a East GM..I DO NOT WANT THAT TO HAPPEN. If I am a team in the West that is contending...I am not giving up anything good bc again they are contending. Now this changes as I stated if we are blowing up roster. But right now with the KNicks trying to salavage season..no GM is going to send us a Paul Gasol for Kwame Brown... we either are going to have to blow up roster...trade away future picks and shump for a lowry type of player, or fire Woodson and hope for another 18-5 like turnaround that we had after dantoni was canned.

I am not A defeatist..I am just a realist..first rule of negotiating is you always negotiate from a position of strength... well guess what.. The Knicks have NONe. We lost it in two stages this year..first is when melo said he wanted to opt out for FA..the second is when he started sucking. BC again if I am a Eastern Conference GM...I am not dealing with the KNicks unless they are blowing up the roster bc if they implode Melo is leaving and most likely going to the West. So for a GM like Ainge its a win-win. right now the status quo is that the Knicks are weak and the "sharks are swimming". All the other teams are going to wait till the Knicks blow up roster unless the KNicks turn it around..start winning..then all of a sudden the knicks dont look "weak". The only trades that will happen is if knicks are blowing up roster.
Now I wonder if the status quo is this bad..and Woodosn has lost the team..why havent the KNicks fired woodson for the possibility of another 18-5 turnaround that happened when dantoni was fired? The Knicks obviously do not believe in woodsons message and are playing unmotivated..a new coach at the very least could energize some disillusioned players. Once Chandler has spoken out against a coach..the team has checked out.
So why havent we fired Woodson? my two theories are 1. He is great in meetings and the FO loves him. 2. We know Melo is gone..so the Knicks are going to keep things the way they are..hope it gets really bad..continue to sell out..and hope atmosphere is so rotten that everyone agrees that the team should be blown up so that the fan base wont go bezerk.

Ask yourself -- why would OKC give up Lamb/Jackson and a #1 pick for what is basically Avery Bradley?
Both Lamb/Jackson are better players than Bradley (who I do like).

Is there anyway to drug Sam Presti into trading us Reggie Jackson (the kid is fearless).
This one works.....
Chandler/Shump/KMART for Jackson/Thabo/Perkins/Collison
As much as I'd love this ---- I don't see anyway OKC lets Jackson get away.
We need to find a young PG --- god how long has it been watching bull=crap players masquerade as Knick PGs.

The Knicks management like anything except young. When was the last time Knicks signed a potential young talent?

so, I disagree with your 2nd point which makes my reality different than yours.
I think Melo is staying, and not just b/c of the money which is a big part of it.
I believe Melo understands that he could be put in a great situation like the Clippers, and then CP3 goes down--just like STAT. Now where is he?
So, if I'm right, then the Knicks are in a place of strenght b/c we won't trade Tyson, Shump, THJ until we're good and ready. I'm basing this on the restraint they showed with the Lowry situation.
It will be interesting to see which one of us is right, either way, I hope it leads to a Chip.

Bored, deal, wake up Donnie...errr whatever.
NY:
Bargs, JR, Shump, Felton Out
Freddette, Nate, Gallo, A. Miller IN
We reshuffle the deck and get a pg we need, we trade a Barg contract for the same injured gallo contract to do so. Does not hurt our 2015 plan.
DEN:
Gallo, Miller, Nate, A.Randpolph OUT
Jason Thompson, Bargs, Smith IN
They trade Miller and get out of the injured Gallo.
Sac:
Thompson, Freddete out
Shump, Felton In.

I meant to say on my second point that the front office knows he is gone.
and I agree personally I do not think it would be worth it for Melo to leave ny
After he forced his way here and made the knicks give up everything for him.
He in my opinion would look worse than lebron did and I don't think Melo wants to do that to his brand at 30 , whereas if he was 24 he would

Hey if you look at my posts i never said I would not have done the deal
I still would make that deal
But what I ment is Melo had the choice of free agency and knicks keep assets or he forced a trade to get his money.
He could have waited and we could have used draft picks for a trade later down the road or used gallnari in another deal.
Melos priority when he came to te knicks was to get paid and not have the best team possible. So I believe if he leaves ny that fact will destroy his brand. Whereas lebron for what it's worth his priority has always been winning.

That has some merit -- would be interesting to see OKC run out Westbrook/Bradley/Durant/Green/Ibacka against the Heat -- that is a pretty formidable 5. Still doubt Boston could get both Lamb/Jackson and a #1 though.

Deal #1:
NYK gets: Rondo + Wallace + Bogans
BOS gets: Shump + Amare + Udrih + 2018 1st Round Pick
Why NY does it? Obviously, Rondo.
Why Bos does it? Get rid of their horrendous contracts in Wallace and Bogan and continue to tank while get a young Shumpert and 2018 pick
Deal #2:
NYK gets: Varejao + Waiters
CLE gets: Chandler
Why NY does it? Need a 2-guard to replace Shump and Varejao is comparable to Chandler and can fill in at C
Why CLE does it? Desperately want to make a playoffs and a front court of Chandler, Tristan Thompson, Luol Deng with backcourt of Kyrie and Jack is pretty impressive.
