GT #41: Celtics @ Wizards 7 PM CSN - "Over .500?"

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Wed Jan 22, 2014 5:40 pm

20-20... we are at the midway point of the regular season now.

Going to 21-20 would validate all of Ernie's hard work to make this team's ceiling a .500 one with this current crop of players. In a watered down conference, we are going to be a top 5 seed most probably. Only for reality to hit next year when all these teams aren't tanking.

As for the Celtics, they made a comeback vs. Miami last night but didn't have enough offense to pull through. Rondo is playing 20-25 minutes and looks incredibly rusty. Pressy looks to be a decent PG (which we could have gotten as an undrafted free agent and better than Maynor). Celtics don't have a traditional center out there so Wall should drive to the bucket at will.

Play hard defense and efficient offense for the first 36 minutes and we should hold a good lead over the C's and should demoralize them to a point where they won't be able to come back. We should win this one, but the Wiz never make it easy.

I hope we win and get this monkey off our backs. But the prospect of getting over .500 seems to make our team squirrely.

The fact is we need to win this game. We need to win the next several games because we're probably going to go 0-5 in that 5 game stretch ending January and beginning February and fall below .500.

Celtics could be without Rondo, Bradley, and Bass.

Edit: And Bayless.

Rondo was awful last game - going 0 for 8, so even if he plays, he's not what he used to be - yet. Actually, I'm not sure how motivated he is to play with this Celtics team. Celts front court can get in hot streaks offensively - and when they play Sullinger and Olynyk together - both are threats to hit 3's - though defensively... epic suckiness. And if Bradley is out, there's nobody to stop Wall from penetrating - he could/should go off tonight. If the Wiz come to play, they win big, because Boston can't defend them.

Almost a must-win for the Wiz considering the next 7 games are brutal. If they don't get over .500 here, it could be psychologically devastating, and they could very well slide into a hole. Does that sound overly dramatic enough?

This is our easiest shot at getting above .500 finally. Celtics played in Miami last night and Avery Bradley got injured so he will mist tonight's game.

Wall is going to cruise. 11-18 for 27 pts and 7 dimes in 30 mins of play. No reason to play any more. There's going to be a Maynor sighting for sure. Maybe even an Otto sighting.

I wish it were that easy but I honestly wouldnt be shocked if its the other way. Literally everytime Ive seen a game this year with a team missing a ton of top guys, the seem to eitehr win or look like they are going to win for a good portion. The opponent just doesnt get up for these games while the undermanned team plays like its the NBA finals because alot of them are getting there chance and no one thinks they can win without there best players.

Add to that we are tight with this record and its in there heads no matter what they say. If Rondo plays, I could see the big UK brother getting in Wall's head and making him stink up the joint. If he doesnt then we should win but Im still scared....lol

Anyways, I think Beal will stay on his roll and have 5 out of 6 good games but I still wouldnt be shocked if the C's came out with a strange lineup and have the lead after 1 while the crowd is nervous and then the players get tight......lol

They were [over]confident vs. the Bucks at home and lost. Guaranteeing anything would be....

Yup, wouldn't be shocked if they lost tonight. Must win before a 5 game western road trip.

the former (maynor sighting) is less likely than the latter (OP sighting).

but bottom line is the upcoming schedule after this is quite difficult.
Just win baby.

They don't have Crawford anymore. This should be a cake walk

http://espn.go.com/nba/preview?id=400489498

Improved defense has been the biggest key lately for Washington, which has held its last five opponents to 96.2 points per game on 44.9 percent shooting, both improvements on the team's season averages.

A strong rebounding effort led to a 107-99 win over Philadelphia on Monday. The Wizards pulled down 53 boards, leading to 44 points in the paint and 12 second-chance points. Bradley Beal led the way with 22 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, while Marcin Gortat chipped in with 19 points and 11 boards.

So no Rondo or Bradley. That's good. But look out..

I know you're being sarcastic, but man that would be so "Wizards" to have a guy like that kill us in our own building. We need to make a statement...

No, I wasn't being sarcastic. And yes, that would be so Wizards.

Now lets just hope that doesn't happen.
