Huge improvement half way through the Season

Post#1 » by ComboGuardCity » Thu Jan 23, 2014 3:47 am

I got to hand it to joe. We are officially more than half way through the season.

Last year we were 16-26.

Guess what folks, we have improved and are 17-25.

20 mill in cap space got us an entire win! Not even a win share ! But a whole win!!!

Great coach hire, signing dead eye shooter josh smith, and re-signing will are certainly putting butts in nearly 50% of seats.

Dust off your crumbs and lick up those cheeto fingers and go accept your executive of the year award joe!!

What are your thoughts at the half way mark?

Dont forget we traded a lottery pick this year in order to sign Josh Smith in the first place.

We also traded a lottery pick and quality 2nd rounder just so we could sign Jennings.

We also gave Bynum, Datome, and Billups 7M to do nothing off our bench

Summary: 2 wasted lottery picks, 27M in free agents signings = 1 more win than last year

Bonus: Monroe and Drummond, the supposed future of our franchise, barely get any touches every game instead of being the focal point of our offense.

Awesome stuff guys awesome stuff!

i like how we have got quite a few moral victories this season. we may have 25 losses but i consider them as 25 opportunities to learn and get better!

And what are losses really? They're just days when shots don't fall. If shots went in we'd be 42-0! That's a win in my book

My thoughts are that if we had even just amnestied Gordon instead of trading our pick, we'd be a lot better off right now...

But, to be slightly more in depth: Dumars needs to be fired. Smith and Jennings need to go. We need to extend Monroe (not to a max if we can avoid it, but I'd still resign him if we had to pay him ~13Mil). We need to acquire a draft pick in this draft if at all possible. And we need to call up Kyle Lowry's agent and see if he can be had at a reasonable price. If he can (~8Mil) then we should sign him, if he can't be had at that price then we pass.

My ideal outcome for the rest of this season:
1) Dumars either gets fired, or visits the Wizard of Oz to get a brain. I don't really care which of those happens as long as one of them happens.

2) We trade Smith straight up for Jeff Green. Rondo wants to play with Smith, and Boston doesn't want Green. Trade is a win-win.

3) Cheeks gets fired. I'd be fine with Cheeks if his defensive scheme wasn't so awful. I've played pickup games where we have better defensive schemes simply because we stay with our man... But that doesn't lead to the steals Cheeks wants, so we've gotta double anyone who has the ball. Steals lead to wins guys, and we're top 5 in steals AND fast break points. We're a good team!!!

4) Lionel Hollens gets hired. This one's a no brainer. Best coach available. Made Memphis into a defensive juggernaut.

everyone is down on the smith and jennings signings, but the main problem is not hiring a good coach, but instead going with a asst coach AGAIN and hope it works out this time.If we had a better coach, this team would look alot different.you fire your big man coach and hire sheed (who was a great guy, player) but no expierence in coaching, when you just drafted a big with potential thru the roof.As much as I think smith is better at pf for this team, you sign him to play sf.It just goes on,on,on,on.Its all mind boogling.

There's a silver lining here somewhere.

Nope. Nevermind. My hopes are pretty much gone now.

I hate tanking and I still want to see us make the playoffs but what happens if we miss the playoffs and the Bobcats make it. Do we keep the pick? Dumb question, I know but yeah lol.

What happens to the Bobcats in their season is completely irrelevant to whether we keep the pick.

If our pick isn't in the top 8 we lose it. End of story.

Wouldn't it be better to keep our pick for this year and let the Bobcats have our 2015 pick? I feel like this draft is more stronger than next years.

LOL
Shots aint fallin
Nothing you can do about that!
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

It's imperative the Pistons preserve their draft pick this year. This team sucks, and if they lose their pick you are looking at essentially the same team next year - a bunch of crap. They have Drummond, they have KCP who may be good some day. Beyond that this team is just horrible.

Yeah, they may make a trade, do a little here or there, but let's be real. The impact will be marginal.

Don't make any trades to improve the team. This team needs to lose EVERY game to keep the pick and get more young talent in this year's draft. It's really their only hope to turn this thing around. They need another shot at the lottery.

If I had my way I'd start Bynum at center, Billups at PF, etc. I'd keep Jennings at PG because he'll suck enough to help them lose as many as possible. No change needed there.

TANK TANK TANK!

The loss to the Bucks was fantastic. Need many more like it!!!!!!!!!!!
