Archie Goodwin Assigned to D-League

Post#3 » by WeekapaugGroove » Thu Jan 23, 2014 5:32 pm

Good move. The kid needs minutes and he's just not ready for the nba right now. I hope he's working with a shooting coach because he NEEDs to be able to hit an outside shot to open up the driving opportunities.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

This is a COMPLETE DISASTER and a HORRIBLE MOVE by Suns management. By sending Archie to the D-league, then banish him to a future of mediocrity and rob him of a superstar future in the NBA. Archie's confidence will be DESTROYED and the Suns will likely have to include MULTIPLE first round draft picks in a trade to get rid of him and his contract.

Archie was BY FAR our BEST and MOST IMPORTANT player off the bench. He EASILY was in the running for ALL ROOKIE TEAM with his defense, dunks and slashing ability. The Suns management needs to HAVE THEIR HEAD EXAMINED for this BONE HEAD MOVE.

I was opposed to it at the start of the season, but now I think it's a good move.

Eh I guess with Ish starting to play really well, he probably wouldn't have got any time even after Bledsoe comes back.

Hope he kills it there and works on bulking up and shooting :D

Good that we kept Len here. It shouldn't hard for him to find minutes as the backup C.

SIKE!

TROLL LOL LOL LOL

Great move. Archie needs more playing time to develop. He has lots of talent, but he has definitely regressed lately. You could see in his passes, shots, and overall play that his confidence an energy were down from earlier this year. He will get consistent heavy minutes in the D league, get to handle the ball more, make a ton of mistakes, and therefore learn faster.

If the Suns were going to go FULL TANK MODE with Bledsoe out, then perhaps the Suns figured they'd keep him around and throw him 10 minutes a game. But after last nights ROMP of Indiana, it looks like we still have the talent to compete for a playoff spot (without Blesdoe) and therefore the veteran Barbosa deserves those minutes.

This too! Ish has improved dramatically!

I was hopeful early in the season when word broke that Suns management liked his up temp style. Lately it really appears he has figured out how to get to the rim and finish with consistency.

Uhh not a huge fan of any d-league moves. I would rather have these young players stick around and compete with actual NBA players every night.

Good move. Archie is garbage at the moment. Let him get some playing time for a bit down there, see what he can do, and bring him back if he tears it up.

Good move. The D league is just like an improved version of staying in college longer, except you would never be facing the crap teams...you would always be facing pretty talented teams with depth, so you need to bring it.

Great news. D-League is only really a step down from the NBA, so even if he doesn't put up fantastic stats, he'll at least get a bit more comfortable with the pace of the game.

How does the D-league actually work off the court?

Will he still be practicing with the Suns?

I don't buy the D-league is actually as 'developmental' as it claims to be. The majority of D-leaguers are guys that will never sniff the NBA, lack talent, smarts, or both, and only have one concern when they're playing - "get mine"

I'd much rather have Archie with the team, with guys like the Morris bros and Tucker and Plumlee, as well as Horny's influence.

Its really only for the weekend, so much is being made of nothing. Hopefully he can get a little confidence going, he needs it.

Don't make a federal case of this. He is going down for 2 games to play because he has not been able to play meaningful minutes in the past several games. Because of the Suns schedule, he had not been able to practice much. He'll only miss one game at the NBA level (Friday) and then return for the upcoming road trip.

I barely view this as newsworthy.

It's development for fringe NBA players. Fringe NBA players are comprised of dated NBA veterans and raw young players like Archie Goodwin. And there's only so much spots for the latter on NBA rosters. Regardless, almost 1/4 of NBA players have spent time in the D-league (http://www.nba.com/dleague/news/nba_cba ... 12_08.html)

I think its good that he stayed them the team for the beginning of the season so he could develop chemistry with the guys.

Now he just needs minutes and the D-league is where he will get them.

If he went to the D-league right away and wasn't a part of our great start to the season I think that would have had a negative effect.

Hope to see him do well there!

edit: I didn't know it was for only two games...W.EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

This was my take on it as well but I got flamed for it in the other thread.

However, my thought was that Goodwin would be getting 10-15 mins a game but I don't think that will be the case with the Suns.

I agree with sending him to the D league now only because there isn't any playing time available for him right now. Barbosa, Ish are both taking up all of the playing time for when Green and Dragic are out.

Kinda weird though that we are just sending him for 2 games. Do they actually expect Goodwin to get used to the Jam offense and his new teammates in just 3 days? Or is it purely so that he can just play in a game for a good amount of time instead of catching rust warming the bench for the Suns?

Hmm. There is nothing in this post that is correct. Every aspect is absolutely totally wrong. Just put wrong in parenthesis after every period. Having to trade multiple first round picks to get rid of his end of the first round rookie contract?!!!! Thats hilarious.

Return to Phoenix Suns
