He may be out for the year and the Spurs have a limited window.

Melo to the Spurs for Kawhi Leonard, Splitter (maybe to a third team), Boner (exp), Colo (exp) + a pick or two.

Then looks to move other players for further assets.

I don't recall coach Pop approved Heroball. Melo plays heroball and the only destination that run heroball all day is Rockets.

You think Melo would play the same way if Pop was his coach? He also would have two great team mates he could count on. On NY, it's just him most games.

Picking up a superstar to pair with Duncan and Parker, I wouldn't call a big panic move. Extends their window for a few years with the way Pop keeps his older stars fresh.

I honestly think San Antonio would say no to Melo for Leonard straight up even if the financials for that worked.

Melo to Chicago

Gibson, Boozer, and Charlotte's pick to NY

Why for us? Melo is walking to Chicago in the offseason anyway. Need to get value for him now.

Why for Chicago? Bulls will need to give up Gibson to clear room for Melo regardless. They throw in the pick in exchange for us taking Boozer (as opposed to them amnestying him and having to pay him) and so they can lock up Melo now instead of risk him going elsewhere in the summer.

That's all we can really get. Lakers don't have many young assets. Chicago is not gonna cough up more picks when they are in the odds-on favorite to sign him in the offseason.

Instead of Gibson, would you do:

From NY
Melo

From Chicago
Boozer, Dunlevy, Charlotte 1st

Losing Taj leaves the Bulls with just Noah and Nazr's rotting corpse at PF and C, plus as you said, the Bulls know there is a good chance to sign him in the off season (though we would have to lose Taj for expirings some time this season if we wanted to go that route.)

Could throw in Kirkypoos expiring too.

Boozer, Snell, Rights to Mirotic, CHA protected 1st rd pick, CHI 2014 1st rd pick, CHA 2016 1st rd pick for Carmelo. They also clear Boozer's contract.

Bulls roll with Hinrich(Rose)/Butler/Anthony/Gibson/Noah - dirty.

Knicks get a pick in the 2014 draft (likely in the 18-22 range), a future pick from Charlottle that becomes unprotected in a few years, and a very highly regarded draft and stash player and a future pick. 4 valuable trade assets.

Two things:

First, we only have one CHA pick, it is top 10 protected this year, top 8 next, and unprotected in 2016. Getting the pick you would get the flexibility too.

Second, the trade would work, minus the rights to Mirotic. The Bulls value Mirotic more then we valued Deng. The trading of Deng, because he refused to take the 30 for 3 deal, was because we so desperately want to bring Mirotic over.

Boozer, Snell/Dunlevy (Your choice), Hinrich expiring, Cha Pick, 2014 1st is fair value for a player who would likely walk in the summer.

I know if we want to get Melo in FA we would also have to trade Taj at some point, but as a individual asset, I feel we could get a nice expiring and a good draft pick, for a player putting up 16/8 per 36, and excellent defense. Arguably Taj is a top 2 defensive PF this year.

I'd take Boozer and Dunleavy plus 2 1st round picks for Melo and K-Mart

Boozer and Dunleavy will have value over the summer, they are blue collar guys teams will trade for them so we could get another asset or 2

I dont wanna add any long term deals and I dont wanna make a huge splash in free agency

From 2014 on I want to implement a system in which the new Head Coach build his team around

You cant build a team around 1 guy not Melo, not LeBron, not even Kobe or Jordan

the goal is to acquire youth and build them up and in free agency will sign vets and blue collar guys to cap friendly at max 3 year deals

no 5yrs/100M contracts for guys who earned them while playing for other teams, thats not proper team building

If woodson is going to be fired in the offseason, why would the knicks make any trades before they bring in the new head coach?

they can keep the morris twins

if melo wants out, and suns offer that you have to pull the trigger

because tyson has value, if he gets hurt which could happen he might not have any value

get what you can get for tyson why you still can

Suns could also throw in A-Goodwin and #s still work ---- boy that trade would make my day.

After we move Melo we get some assets for Tyson....then wait the process out on guys like Stat, Felton..etc.

What a breath of fresh air some potential draft picks and young guys running around playing hard would be --- win or lose I just want something fresh.

Scariest thing facing us now is MAX CAT MELO deal --- we have to avoid that one and at the same time get something good for Melo.

PHX are probably the only trade deadline candidate (Good call Rasho). Okafor, Len and there 2014 picks would be good.

S&T in the offseason is probably better IMO.

Bulls are an option with Boozer, there 2014 first & CHA first.

Lakers with Nash and there 2014 first (Would be highest pick we could receive).

If Melo were smart he might give PHX a try....though not sure Hornacek wants anything to do with him.

- 2 outstanding ball/handling/passing guards
- spread the floor big-man shooter in Frye
- big.athletic banger in Plumlee
- tough wing defender in the kid from Texas (name?)
- Gerald Green coming on
- other young big (Morris Brother)

- great weather
- city close to LA (for La La)
- less negative pressure

No chance that the Suns would make such a ridiculous offer.

If Melo agrees to an extension, him and Shumpert for Okafor, Goodwin and those 3 or 4 draft picks is enough.
