Thoughts on Jimmer and IT starting rotation

Post#1 » by blind prophet » Thu Jan 23, 2014 3:43 am

Ok assuming we are healthy soon with both Cuz and Gay back soon.

What do you guys think about a Jimmer and IT backcourt?

Jimmer's shot has looked pretty good with proper rotations and screens. Also if the defense collapses to help with Gay, Cuz, or IT he would be a nice fella to have for a spot up 3.

Is Jimmer's defense really that much worse than Thornton's or McLemore's?

Please explain why you think this could or could not work,

That begs the question of who backs up IT? Thorton? I don't consider him a floor general and someone you want running the second unit. I have nothing against Jimmer starting, but he's currently the only option we have to run the bench mob.

That is unless the staff considers McCallum to be ready for a promotion. If so, then I'm all for it.

Thornton hasn't been hitting his shots but I really hope his defense and hustle isn't going unnoticed. Putting him in the starting lineup over McLemore has been a boost for this team on defense no question. Jimmer has looked nice as the backup PG lately, leave him there.

If you really watch the players individually on defense, Jimmer's D has been darn right good all year.

Good point our bench is pretty thin. Ray in the mix would certainly help if he is ready.

If not we can take Thornton out earlier and put Jimmer in to run with IT some perhaps earlier in the rotation.

I've noticed MT doing a few things recently, hustle on D, look to move the ball, and crash the boards well for a guard when the timing is right.

Jimmer has looked good as the backup, I still have concerns when very athletic fellas pressure the ball, Salmons in the past, and Gay now were good options to help with that some if either were in the game.

I am not sure how to fix it, but our off guard shooting is the poorest I can recall since the Kings came to Sacramento.

Jimmers confidence is at an all time high, and he's playing the best basketball of his career. I'd rather keep that going on the right path over experimenting starting him at the SG spot.

Knocking on wood while typing...

Jimmer is currently shooting over 90/50/40 on the year (93/51/45). Nash, Bird, Nowitski, Durant, Price, and Miller are the only players in NBA history to do that.

Also, Jimmer has a positive defensive win share for the first time in his career (positive offensive WS as well).

I think Jimmer Fredette should remain exactly where he is. His current spot as the backup PG is where he belongs.

Would you like to see Jimmer getting more minutes?

Like maybe 25ish a game? Splitting his normal backup role but coming into the game earlier and playing with IT, and then coming out of the game a little later than he has been?

I had no idea he was in the company of the above mentioned in shooting, on a per shot basis that is impressive indeed.

I actually think Jimmer is producing optimal results right now. He is being put into positions where he can succeed. I'd hate to mess that up. I think his minutes should be regular but should come against second units most nights. I would like to see Jimmer put into the game during closeout minutes when the other team is fouling. I'd like for him to get a little more practice in the clutch. I think that role of closeout free throw shooter is valuable and that Jimmer can play the part.

I think most of those are 50% fg and 40% 3pt...Jimmer is doing 40% fg and 50% 3pt which is unique.

You make a good point again. Perhaps this is the best of Malone and Jimmer. We have all seen Jimmer struggle in the past, perhaps we are seeing an excellent coaching and player situation when it is appropriate.

Perhaps with more time and coaching his minutes would extend, and if not, getting this type of production the way it has been recently is working nicely.
