This may be the most Lebron-homer post ever. "Even when Lebron is not the best in the league, and every metric corroborates that, he is still actually the best in the league, because he is magic."

Amen. I see variants of this sentiment to various degrees of extremity around, and it's pretty ridiculous. No, Durant is clearly having the better and more impactful season, and every metric bears that out.

LMA with 44 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks tonight. 15/29 FG, 14/17 FT. Scored Portland's last 13 points to close out the game.

Dude is now putting up approximately 24 points/12 rebounds/3 assists/1 steal/1 block and taking on the offensive burden of the league's best offense.

Thus far

Durant

LMA
George/Lebron

I would've Lebron second but defensively, he's been non-existent on that end and his "big" games come against bad teams. Not to mention Miami has one of the 3 easiest schedules in the entire league...

What LeBron have to do to be MVP is to pray for Durant's form fade by the last 20 games of the season (which is likely due to exhaustion) and finish it stronger than ever. Voters are easily caught by who finished the best and reputation.

Lebron is still 2nd on the MVP list. Just because Lebron is not playing like how he played the last 2 seasons does not mean Paul George and LMA are are more valuable to their teams than Lebron.

Lebron is still averaging 26 ppg, 7 rpg, 6.5 apg on 58% FG. That's still nasty. His team has been injured and they don't have a legitimate starting lineup. Players keep coming in and out for the Heat and it really disrupts their chemistry and flow but they are still only 3 games below Indiana.

1. KD
2. LBJ
3. Paul George/LMA

I really don't see how PG and LMA can be tied. I think LMA has solidified at #3 and PG is solidified at #4

Semantics really as neither are in the race and the only first place votes they'll get are from media people who want to be different.

Or you know, play better himself. Lebron doesn't have to "pray" for anything on the part of KD

Absolutely not. As great as his performance was yesterday you are not an MVP candidate when your team is tied for the 10th best record in your conference.

Fair or not, a certain amount of team success is part of the MVP candidacy and not being in the playoffs (yet) completely disqualifies Carmelo from this.

You are pulling my leg, aren't you  ? If you are serious scoring 62 points in one game in a season in which your team is on pace to miss the playoffs doesn't make you MVP of anything. Simple as that.

that would be hilarious.... on a serious note, KD is playing out of his mind. There shouldn't be one person on this planet that doesn't have KD at #1 in the mvp voting right now. Still a long way to go, but KD is certainly in the zone.

Would I be correct in assuming Durant's scoring efficiency and TS% has actually gone up since Westbrook's injury?

I remember discussions about how far it would drop and it seems he's just gone the other way.

What i like about the slim reaper is that he is leading the MVP not because lebron declined but because the slim reaper has improved.
