Sign Bynum asap. We need a center badly.

Honestly it's money or he won't play it seems like from Bynum point of view.

Iceburg Slim wrote:Spoke to a buddy of mine down here in Miami that's well-connected to the team a few hours ago. He says that the Bynum signing is only a matter of time. What's being hammered home right now is concerns relating to Bynum's attitude. Pat, as we all know, won't be having any of that, especially during a season like this one. Once that is settled and established, the HEAT are going to have a new starting center to place alongside Chris Bosh.
Greg Oden is fine. Because of one of his legs being longer than the other, officials are working on a special shoe for him to play with that will provide balance for him. Miami is really pulling out all of the stops to ensure that The Oden Project is a success. The feeling is that there's no doubt about Miami's desire to keep rebuilding Greg Oden long-term, and they want him to have as much potential for success with us as possible.
If he gets hurt, he gets hurt. If not, Miami will have a starting-caliber center going forward. Either way, regardless of a Bynum signing or not, Miami is fully committed to Greg Oden, and he knows that. The only frustration he has is about getting his body ready to play and completing his rehabilitation. This is the exciting thing about this franchise. We care about our players.
SHAQ, for all of his complaining about Miami, actually lost some credibility when he tried to claim Pat Riley ended his career. Everything SHAQ used to resurrect his career in Phoenix was being offered to him here in Miami, but because he didn't like how he was being treated by Riley, he decided to loaf around and get himself hurt some more, similarly to his contract dispute with the Lakers before forcing his way out of there.
In Riley We Trust. Big time.
They may not sign him?? Is that it, they are sure doing a great job as seeming though they may not want/need him? I thought they were possibly playing big to get ready for hom being there but they have me fooled. Anyone else think hes definitely in the back burner?

Re: Andrew Bynum
Kenny Smith said some truth about Oden recently, he's an energy guy, he's not that skilled offensively but he's like a way more talented version of Birdman (energy guy, will get you putbacks and way better defense). Oden never got to refine his offensive skills
That said, even more reason to get Bynum as a backup- even with Oden, we still don't have the guy who we can give the ball to in the post and he can go to work. That guy is Bynum, not Oden. I'm still concerned that we seemingly aren't making any real moves to get him. Don't care what all these, i have sources people are saying until it actually happens.
I strongly believe this team needs a back to basket big to get them easy points. With the way this Oden playing time is going, I'm starting to think the Heat really won't pursue Bynum because they don't want to hurt Oden's feelings. But really though...

I am not sure that's true. The Heat have enough offensive firepower to beat any team. The problem comes on the defensive end when Hibbert ends up looking like prime Shaq against Bosh. Hibbert averages what 12/8 and against the Heat that jumps to 22/10. In ECF he averaged 22/10. If Oden or another big body is there theoretically to keep Hibbert to his averages, Miami wins in 5 or 6.
The Heat with LeBron and Wade don't need another post presence, they need a defensive big who can guard the bigs of the other team. The reality is that Bosh is a finesse 4 playing the 5. He gives up 2-3 inches and a good 30-40 lbs to Hibbert. Moreover, with Oden at 5 and Bosh at the 4, Indy has no size advantage left over Miami and all of a sudden the Heat become the clear favorite (if Oden is healthy by then).
For this reason, *if* Oden works out I am not sure Bynum is such a necessity for Miami. He is not that great of a defender.

The perks of having Bynum is you need someone for Hibbert to have to defend, a guy that can get Hibbert in foul trouble easily. Oden is not sufficiently refined in the post to really put pressure on Hibbert to defend. From what I've seen with Oden, i don't know if we drop the ball into him in the post he can actually get us points on Hibbert. You can at least get that from Bynum, but yes we need Oden's defense. But its also important that Hibbert have to exert energy defending someone his size, and he will have to defend Bynum. With Oden we have to depend on his put backs and rebounding over Hibbert to get his points because hes not the dump it in the paint for points guy.
Because Wade isn't a sure thing, and Bosh usually cant do ish against the Pacers, i think it will come down to, how can you easily get points? They don't let us hit 3s so we can assume Ray won't be effective. You want to send lebron in there to face the verticality bs or you want to have an option to dump the ball for two points in the paint?

Re: Andrew Bynum
I say this especially after seeing Hibbert score easily on Bogut, Bogut CAN DEFEND and is better than Oden at this point. Im guessing Hibbert will be able to score on Oden, from what I've seen. But who knows, Oden might turn into some super defensive stopper by then, not there yet tho. Pau could eat on him tonight if needed.

Good points in this post and the post above but again, of course Hibbert can dominate centers here and there but his season averages for his offense aren't that impressive. He only turns into 22/10 from 12/8 against us because we have no one to guard him. I am confident that against Oden he might still score or even school him but I don't see him averaging 22/10.
Bynum might be a good offensive threat just against Indy but even today you could see Oden understands basic defense and was doing fine.
Re Oden: Assuming he stays healthy, he has another 3 + months to get in game shape and fine tune his defense. Until then he very well might become a defensive stopper like he was supposed to be.
Re Bosh: You are right that he always shrinks against Indy but if he is playing the 4, we might see him perform well on offense. I am sure guarding Hibbert takes a lot out of him.
Either way, if we do get Bynum it's not like I will be against it but *if* Oden works out, I think we will be fine against Indy because we will take away their biggest advantage over us.

Re: Andrew Bynum
There's no way Oden will be able to play 15-20mins in a hard fought ECF, they need another big body. Just stop for a minute and look at how Oden moves around the court, I really can't see him holding up over the long haul, his body movement just looks so broken. I cringe everytime he goes up for a rebound or dunk....

Yea understand what you're saying, but I'll actually have to see Oden play good defense on a good center to know he can defend Hibbert, can't tell right now. Hibbert def lights us up more than any other team but what I saw him do against Bogut was a bit surprising .
The way I see Oden, good defender now but he's really like a rookie at this. Doesn't have the in game experience and has no playoff experience. You're really trusting this young guy in a situation like the playoffs where theres high pressure to produce against one of the best centers in the league. Hibbert is always super motivated against us, that won't change.
Due to Bynum's experience and ability, I feel like after seeing Oden, i understand he's not all the way there yet. But i think I get the gist of what he will be like. I say Bynum has to be that insurance, because what Bynum lacks in defensive presence, he's still a big body, which is really all you need for Hibbert and Im pretty sure he can get buckets on Hibbert after seeing him drop 20pts 10 rebounds and 5 blocks on Noah and the Bulls this season.
I think if someone told us Oden would give us half of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZdVPMD1t0A we would go crazy and say its exactly what we need, but because its Bynum we are overlooking how talented he is
This is exactly the type of production you want from Oden.
BTW we gotta learn how to use Oden offensively for him to be effective, i don't want almost all his points to come off putbacks. Same issue Cleveland had with Bynum, they didn't know how to play with a big, Miami doesn't know either.

Very very true. I do think that on a high IQ basketball team with LeBron, Bosh and Wade, the Heat should be able to figure it out much better than Cleveland. Rio and Cole on the other hand
What I would give to have Bosh/Oden combo against Indy for 15 minutes a game in the ECF. I hope Spo pulls a Pop and doesn't play Oden against Hibbert in the RS.

Re: Andrew Bynum
Terrible joke, but its convenient that a guy with the last name Mason is shooting bricks.....................
Anyways, cut his butt and bring in Bynum. If you don't like his love for basketball, at least let him rebound, block shots, and score for us in limited minutes, unless you'd rather see Haslem.....And you could always hypnotize him into loving the game. That should be a recommended therapy for a lot of people actually.

It's taking too long, I don't think Pat is interested in Bynum. With Oden starting to get minutes, our front office might not feel as desperate to add size.
It looks like we're passing on Bynum, waiting to see if we can make our final move at the trade deadline.

Re: Andrew Bynum
I said it 2 weeks ago and I'll say it again... "LOL"...
Bynum may very well end up here...But currently Bynum has no chance of coming here! Any time I ask someone I trust they respond with "LOL" or "See Oden progress for progess on Bynum".He wants more than minium(No one will offer him that till a major injury happens to a contending team) and Riley is giving Oden every chance to hold down the C position. We have invested way to much in Oden to now show him that were not fully behind him. Any report of Bynum signing RIGHT NOW is wrong.

Re: Andrew Bynum
I too have a feeling we aren't going after him. Bynum likely thinks he's a starting caliber center and wants minutes, money also. We probably are so dedicated to Oden that we aren't too bothered by Bynum. Bad bad decision in my opinion. In the playoffs we need experience and confidence (Bynum has this), Bynum likely honestly believes he's the best center in the league and would be motivated to prove it
KEVIN DING @KevinDing 16h
From what @EthanJSkolnick tells me, Heat fans (wrongly) are very interested in adding Andrew Bynum to this mix. Greg Oden looks good so far.
KEVIN DING @KevinDing 16h
The thing is that Bynum doesn't aspire to be some fill-in big body. He wants to be great or it's not worth the tremendous pain and effort.
