That's okay, it gives me some more time to do research on Toronto-era Vince.

Im just very curious why Brad Daugherty wasnt drafted? 20-10 57% winning record, allstar every yr. He outplayed Hakeem in head to head meetings and was just as good as Ewing or DRob in match ups. He is without a doubt the 6th best C of this era and he was passed up by every team. Not even as a backup.

Truthfully, I forgot about him after I drafted Kareem and went for Chandler. But for those who were hell bent on a passing center, I'm not sure why he was passed up on. He was that 80s center who could go in the post and had a solid mid-range jumper even if he's more finesse than power. Not much of a defender, but then again, Brad Miller and Vlade aren't outstanding in these areas too. It could be he's thought of as a guy who's back forced him out of the league, but looking at games played, he fits in the rules.

Didn't consider him for my starting C just because I wanted someone who could defend the paint really well, and I already had 3 20ppg scorers in my starting line-up, for my back-up I thought he was drafted for some reason and had him marked off my list of players i was interested in. I did draft him in the only other draft I did on this board for what its worth :) but didn't make it out the first round :(

just to clear some things up about Toronto-bosh... offensively he was an iso-heavy mid-high post player who threatened defending bigs with his jumpshot but his primary goal was to get to the rim - which he did quite frequently. in his later years in Toronto (08 and 09) I would say he was almost unguardable 1 on 1.

about his rebounding, it's not like he's any worse of a rebounder now it's just that in Toronto he was often guarding centers (in the traditional sense) so he was often in premium position to grab boards. in Miami though he often switches on PnR's all the time and I wouldn't be surprised if he spent about half his time on defense from the free throw line to the three point line. it's about strategy, not stats.

PS I will finally divulge how I drafted the players I did. there were a few main categories i looked for (searches on bball-ref) and had a spreadsheet with players' three-year averages in: PER, ORTG, DRTG, the difference in ORTG/DRTG, WS/48 and I used TS% as a tie-breaker. I know that one stat (no matter how advanced) accurately portrays a player's impact which is why I tried to find players that had good impact across the board. my theory with this is that I would find players that had a good medium of production/efficiency and also contributed to the team's success. my barkley, paul, gasol, sabonis and harden picks were at the top of my big board, the rest were in the top 1/4 of my big board. positional needs was also a bigg issue of mine, and I feel I drafted my players wrong from a positional standpoint. eg I could have gotten doc rivers who went undrafted but was pretty much an equal to mo cheeks and drafted kiki vandeweghe instead of lewis.

thinking about it now i'm kind of glad I went PG/PF first, those were the positions that were drafted the least.

As of today Nargio has a 25-12 big to pair with Jordan. That pick is looking better and better every day.

I seriously considered taking him as my backup center, but I wanted my backup to be clearly worse than my starter, so I could play him much less minutes. With Mourning and Daugherty, it's be too close between them. I agree that he deserved to be drafted, but many people were discouraged by his poor defender. Very solid scorer, rebounder and an excellent passer tho, so it's indeed quite strange that no one was willing to nab him...

Yeah, although our time-line begins with the 79-80 season ("80"), so "79" cannot be used.

You can't use 79 for Gervin. Unless you're like Notanoob and use the years when they start? So the rest of your years would be different too.

When you write down the years, write the year ending. If you meant 79/80-81/82 for Gervin, then write 80-82. Just want to keep it uniform with the way I wrote the rest of the years.

I'll take a bit of a risk here and go with young Vince Carter. 98/99-00/01. He's clearly the best version on offense, and while his defense has improved, I don't think it'll make much of a difference against all-time greats if he's bad or just mediocre. Furthermore, he didn't start to really have 'issues' until management made it clear they were in no hurry to win. I'm getting the fully healthy, full-effort version who had an epic playoff duel with AI, and was only one more made FGA away from winning the series. This version of Vince also is nearly a 40% 3 point shooter, best shooting version available. Plus, I think that old-ish Paul Pierce can handle giving Vince more touches. He knows as well as everyone who's getting the ball in crunch time.

Just a comment, the three year thing really seems to complicate it. Are you judging which team is best over a three year period? If a player has quite a fluctuation between years, are you using an average of the three and just assume that's his level of play? Or are you assuming the first year designated for each individual player makes up the team for the first year, and so on?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
