Impressed by Ish Smith?

Post#1 » by Revived » Fri Jan 24, 2014 8:47 am

I think Ish is starting to come along really well. I had very, very low expectations for Ish (as did most people I think) but he's been a pleasant surprise.

He's one of those players that you have to leave in for some time so that he can play through little mistakes and then make big plays.

Him and Barbosa in the backcourt together is working to a tee and I hope Hornacek keeps em together.

It's great to see him get some recognition, unfortunately I've only seen a handful of games and rarely get to see him in action.

It would be nice if someone could make a youtube video of his highlights ;)

Also, I hope the Suns sign Barbosa for the rest of the year, I don't know why they are doing this ten day thing, I think if anything it makes LB worried about his future.

Ish reminds me of Elliot "Socks" Perry back in the day as far as guards I didn't expect much from but made an impact.

What impressed me with Ish in the last game was he didn't even play in the first half. During the second half when the Suns go through that 4-minute "foul fest" against the Pacers Horny puts him in cold and suddenly the ship is righted. That takes some nuts after sitting on the bench in the first half.

I have liked Ish all year long. Finally he appears to be getting some Kudos and playing time. He comes in and is aggressive from start to finish. That is who we are as a team. What is not to like? So he is not a greater shooter. That is not he primary objective.

He is probably the best distributor we have on the team and that includes Dragic and Bledsoe.

He's very inconsistent, can't shoot, and at times makes awful decisions with the ball.

That said, he's extraordinarily fast. And yeah, he does remind me of "Socks" a bit. I think he's one of those guys you put in as a spark plug and if he has it that night you let him roll. If not then you go a different way. That layup high off the glass against the Pacers was pretty great the other night.

I'd still rather have him than Marshall. Just something about that guy that I really really dislike. I can't believe that like Gambo I once (way before the draft) advocated drafting him. I'd cooled on him considerably by draft time and advocated a number of other players on draft day tho.

He has done a fine job as a third point guard, elevated to backup point. He comes in and does his job. The only issue I've had was his shooting. He should never be lining up a three point shot. He's had some nice scoop passes. But oddly, Green has had some nice passes to Plumlee as well.

Many of our guys stepped up after a few days off. Hopefully that will be a trend for many games.

he seems to play very well when he isn't letting the situation take over his decision making. Hope he continues to figure things out on a consistent basis. Maybe we blamed him too much for those couple of Memphis losses.

He's impressed me because I expected nothing from him and in a few games he's shown he can hang with good teams. But he's also had a long list of games where he's made bad decisions, taken bad shots and was totally useless out there. But i have to give credit where credits due, he's been great the last few games and is the reason why our second unit is beating teams.

If it wasn't for Kendall becoming a 3pt sharp-shooter i would agree.

Our leading rebounder against Washington. And he's the smallest player on the team.

Keep em coming Ish! :D

Not as we speak, but not a bad idea either. It'll be relatively short, but maybe I can try to release one within the next week or so.

Fun fact: Ish Smith is 7-for-51 on jump shots this season. Most of those are just mid-range shots too, as he's only taken 17 threes this year.

That means he is 6-34 on jump shots that are not threes.

Oh I know man, I was just messing around. Don't give it much of a thought. You put enough good highlight videos up here, I'm sure you'll get to Ish when you have the time and when you want to do it.

You inspired me, I'm working on one right now. There won't be a ton of clips, but I have enough to make a video. It'll be up in a couple of hours hopefully, if not I'll upload tomorrow morning.

“One of the things they have in their back pocket is Ish Smith can change a game with the way he gets up and down the floor, and he got right there in the teeth of our defense without anybody stopping him,” Boston coach Brad Stevens said. “That kind of opened the floodgates.”
