They had a PG that has actually been playing very well lately that could have co existed with Smith.

His name was Brandon Knight, and they should have never let him go.

Yup. Trading him for Jennings, and then overpaying Jennings was an incredibly stupid move, particularly after signing a notorious brick shooter in Josh Smith.

Detroit is no closer to putting everything together than Cleveland, or Orlando, or Charlotte, or Toronto, or Washington, or Atlanta, or Brooklyn.

Ill take a top 10 pick in this years draft over risking them firing Dumars, firing Cheeks, another year of seasoning for Drummond and them putting it all together.

This. Hell, I'd take the 15th pick in this year's draft over their 2015 pick. With a top 8 pick this year, they jump straight to elite level in 2015 given a couple right (but very simple and obvious) moves.

If they trade Monroe, or even Josh Smith for a legit above average SF who can stretch the floor thats a true game changer for them right there. They have the assets to wheel and deal at the trade deadline to do it also.

If the Bobcats find a couple of upgrades, they'd be a really good team.

it all depends on what Detroit might be able to get for one of their pf's.

if something decent became available, then they could improve quite a bit.

thats the advantage they have over us, they have an asset to trade.

So would I, but it's very unlikely we'll get a top-10 pick from Detroit this year. Once they realize they aren't going to the playoffs, they'll move themselves from 11th, at worst, to at least 8th, and then we'll be hoping someone(s) from 9-14 jumps into the top 3.

I guess it depends on how you feel about mid first round prospects in this supposedly deep draft.

They almost absolutely make a jump with a top 8 pick. We'd be better off getting the pick this year. There's a chance they pull a Portland and just become insane next year. I'm not saying it'll happen (it's Detroit) but there's a significant chance they become pretty good next year. I'd be perfectly fine with a 15th pick in this draft.

Dumars is going to get canned if that team doesn't make the playoffs after all the money they spent in the off season. If anything he will do anything he can to improve the team in my opinion.

I hope Dumars does try to make the playoffs until they're eliminated, and as a result we get the 10th or 11th pick. I hadn't really considered how Dumars might jeopardize his team's future just to save his job.

But I'd prefer waiting to the 15th pick. Maybe the pick is a few spots lower next year, but it's worth taking the risk for this futile franchise.

I'm conflicted on the Detroit pick and honestly my crystal ball is too hazy to decidedly say I want it this year vs next. My gut tells me that I'd prefer to get it this year in the late lottery/mid-1st round simply b/c this draft is so deep and there should be a bevy of useful 2/3s available to pick from (Harris, Young, Hood, etc).

I am firmly on the tanking bandwagon at this point. We are 4 games out of being the 6 seed which is where we would need to be in order to not be swept. We have such a lack of talent on this roster that Im all for picking 7th or so and getting the bpa there no matter who it is.

I'm really hoping we end up as the 10th seed in the east, detroit as the 9th. That would leave us with two lottos and probably like the 25th pick. I'm hoping for zach lavine and noah vonleh out of the lottos if we get them

If that happens I'd trade the 25 pick for cash or a veteran.

I'd use that pick to upgrade one of the other picks. I'd probably trade Zeller and/or Henderson for the right upgrade as well.

I'd use that pick to buy a Delorean to go back in time and punch Larry Brown in the face.

All this board seems to do is complain when we draft players and they aren't immediately ready to come in and produce, so Vonleh would be a terrible pick. The guy is incredibly raw and (hold your breath folks) we would have to give him about 2 seasons before he's a legitimate double double threat.
Mike Malone was never given a fair chance in Sacramento, and Ranadive will soon come to regret that, when he's on top of the WC inevitably contending somewhere
