Seriously, I think Stephenson is a guy who is great on the Pacers, but would be a cancer anywhere else, especially if he's paid. I understand that opinion is not provable unless he actually moves, but I'd stay away.fart wrote:Thoughts on Lance Stephenson? I wouldn't mind if the Cavs threw big money at him this summer.

Re: Trade Ideas - Part 2
You don't know if Dallas would really respond to us? What are you talking about? They'd accept as soon as you offered that Magic 2d rounder and it sounds like you wouldn't even be done offering them stuff. You're way overvaluing Dalembert.ThirdEyeSharp wrote:So any idea how we could acquire either of these players?
Kevin Martin - Minnesota
Minnesota has struggled late in games because the flaunt a back court that is incapable of creating for themselves on a consistent basis. Personally, I would trade Waiters for him. But I understand that wouldn't happen, I don't think Martin will even be available.
A more realistic trade target IMO is Samuel Dalembert. Not sure how willing dallas is to give him up but I think we should try to get him. He plays good D still, and would add a rim protection element we just don't have. I'd give up any combo of Zeller, Gee, Orlando's 2nd rounder? Dunno if Dallas would really respond to us.
But I feel like both of these players are the type of players we're missing. They'd add a nice bit of experience on this team with our youth.
Also, when you say you understand Waiters for Martin wouldn't happen, please tell me you mean it wouldn't happen because the Cavs wouldn't do it.
My gosh, man, I've heard of self-loathing fans undervaluing their players before, but this is cold sabotage.

Strangely enough I think this is probably true. If there is a basketball reason for not doing so, I'm all for hearing it.

Imagine if we dumped Jack:
Bynum signed - traded and cut
Jack signed - traded
Bennett drafted - 10MPG in 31 games
Karasev drafted - 8MPG in 17 games
I realize the Bynum signing would not really be a negative given we were able to get Deng out of it, but that would be looked at as anything but a productive summer.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

At some point, the only thing that matters is winning, losing, and putting the best team on the floor that you can. If the Cavs could grab the six seed, no one would care how Bennett plays. Dion's had about as much as he is going to take deferring to clearly inferior player. We are going to have to move one of them. I don't think it's an accident that the two games Dion played his best were when Jack was out of the line up. Dion accepted the sixth-man role but asking him to play off the ball while Jack "runs the offense" for the second unit is probably a bridge too far.

Fair trade for all 3 teams, and fits a need for each.
IMO Monroe's got the most talent, but is in the last year of the rookie contract.
TT is the 2nd best player w/ another year of the rookie contract.
Barnes probably has the same potential as TT, but is a bit behind in development: he has another 2.5 yrs on his rookie contract though.

Re: Trade Ideas - Part 2
We would have to extend Monroe, though. Which would be hard considering we want to spend money on the SF position and want to have money to give Kyrie the max.
And once again we wouldn't gain any defense from that trade.
I actually wonder what it would take to get DeAndre Jordan here, It was rumored before this year that a Varejao-Jordan swap was on the table, but with the way Jordan is playing now it seems impossible. And Tristan Thompson would have to go if we acquired a guy like DJ.
I want a defensive center more than anything.

It's depressing to think of how much we want a rim protecting center now even though we passed on Noel, a center prospect who graded out as a future HoF level defender in college, for Anthony freaking Bennett.

You could play Monroe for a few months before extending him and see how it works. If the Cavs flourish with a legitimate (read mobile) offensive threat in the post, pay the man. If not, via con dios. In a year, we are going to have to extend TT. Does that give you pause?

Everyone except for Kyrie for Gasol or Conley? No. Because the roster is pathetic and lowballed constantly. Except for Kyrie. He's alright.

can't see mem trading either one this year ( fans and FO are thinking playoffs at this point) . conley is way underrated by most people . good all around player & leader and a top flight defender ( imho). i think he gets over looked because it took him awhile to really develop .
