Just a Speculative Question

Hey all.

Noob wrote this in the Draft Thread and it sparked a question in my mind, so I spun it off into it's own thread —

In any event, Keith has improved massively. He's a bit short, and we've got enough PGs as it is, but hopefully CB1 retires to move into the freshly cleaned out front office and Bynum goes elsewhere (love the guy anyways). Then we'd have room.

So here's my question — if Dumars promised Billups a front office job (as has been reported) and then Dumars gets canned after this season, does Billups still get his promised position? Is it up to the new GM or Gores? If Gores signed off on the agreement then I'd like to think he's still beholden to it, but if Billups' front office job is solely dependent upon Joe hiring him as such then he might be S.O.L. if Dumars gets fired.

In any case, I sure hope not; again, I'd like to think that this organization will honor its word to a player who meant so much to it. Sadly, I also know that's often not how things work in the real world, and I could see a new GM wanting full autonomy to hire his own staff.

I dont know if billups is experenced enough to take over a gm position,but he has alot of friends in this league and alot of people respect him.

To me, Billups makes more sense as a coach than as a GM. Is there any indication that he's a good judge of talent and good at evaluating players? On the flipside, there's more evidence of him being able to lead and coach a team based on his performance as our point guard.

Considering how much JVG just shredded the Pistons organization, I would put that under the "extremely unlikely" category.

I'll echo this sentiment. Billups was a great player, but we're witnessing what former players do in front offices right now with Dumars. I could care less about where Chauncey is next season.

I dont give a SHIIIT if Billups gets a position or not and no one on these boards should either.

He can have some meaningless role but I have a feeling that was not what he was promised and what he desires, dont forget how big of an ego this guy had in his last year in Detroit.

Alot of people give Chauncey a pass because our first chip. His piss poor play and chucking, not to mention getting a key 3pt blocked by Bowen in game 7 cost us the back to back championship. That entire year he had it in his head he was Mr. Big Shot and was just chucking away. How easily some forget.

I was happy when he was traded. Unfortunately we completely misused Iverson and ran him out of the league robbing him and others a chance to see him play for a few more years.

I believe Chauncy made it clear before he had no interest in coaching, though I do think that is where he would be better suited. I would be cool with him having a front office role, just not as GM, or any high up decision making position.

id prefer a person with no ties to the front office/team/or players to take over. someone who is competent and can keep up with the new way of building teams.

I think it's up to Gores or new GM. The thing he has with Joe is probably only verbal, so new guys in power might not honor it.
