That draft class, Ross was expected to go 15 - 20... Drummond was expected to challenge Davis for 1st early before his injury. He eventually fell on our lap at 8th, but we took Ross.
Ross turned out hella good. Props to BC's scouting staff. Ross has that rare everything, he is going to be a stud in this league, you just watch. Drummond is going to be a stud as well, easily.
Well, everyone has been shaking up these boards with "drummond instead of ross"
Here's my take. It's easy to differentiate between a good management and a great management.
A good management in terms of scouting is finding hidden gems like Ross.
A great management would be taking drummond with that 8th overall pick and buying a pick within the 9 - 14 range which would have guaranteed you T Ross. I mean how expensive would a pick been in that year in that range.
With 5 - 6 teams as potential trade partners, we could have worked ourselves a deal which would have enabled us to get Ross AND Drummond.
Ross is a special player. Im not saying that just because of today's performance. He's shown defensively and offensively why he's special ever since that Rudy Gay Trade as he is getting opportunity.
The reason I say what I'm saying is because it is not fair to Ross to say we could have had Drummond instead of you. We are blaming him for our managerial incompetency. Ross and Drummond both have long ways to go, they are both going to be special, and theres possibilities that Drummond will have a better career than Ross, AND theres possibilities that Ross will have a better career than Drummond. We will have to wait and see.
But AT THAT TIME, Ross was relatively unknown as a top prospect. Drummond was clearly a top prospect. Since we were able to scout Ross, why didn't we take Drummond and buy a pick to take Ross.
I hope our new management does these type of things to push us a step forward.
