The Pistons Are Tanking

Post#1 » by Spider156 » Sun Jan 26, 2014 11:01 pm

I full-heartily believe that we are tanking this season and it's all part of Dumars and Cheeks plan. Everything would make complete sense. I don't know how you don't take a timeout (having two left) with 2 seconds left in the game and shoot a full court shot instead. I didn't watch the end of the Pelicans game but this is what my brother told me happened. Regardless, I can't believe you can be THIS bad at coaching when you've been doing it for a long time. My only conclusion so far this season is that we are tanking and tanking hard. I don't see Dumars and Cheeks getting fired this season unfortunately. I believe Dumars will be let go at the end of the season while there's a possibility that Cheeks stays as a coach but I doubt it. This is the only conclusion that I have made for this team. So there goes a wasted season.

Or they're just both awful at their jobs.

i tend to agree with Natopher.
You don't go out and spend 54 mil on a 28 yr old FA if you intend to tank.
Cheeks and Dumars are just f***ing up.

I have to agree at this point. Just announced that no lineup changes tonight. Anyone trying to win would've recognized by now that something needs to change. The fact that Cheeks keep hinting around the fact and never doing anything, it sounds like someone stalling. He's just waiting for enough losses to accumulate and then he will make a change when its too late. Just like Frank did the last two years. We are too close to the playoff still for him to do anything that might turn things around. Better to wait until every team passes us in the standings, and then try something different. lol

Though, i you look at the how we played near the beginning and how we play now, it does appear the strategy may have changed. I 100% thought we were going to the playoffs. Now, near the end of games, it seems like Cheeks is coaching us into a loss. I think they realized this wasnt the squad to move forward with, and may have switched hats and started doing a little incognito tanking. Then again, they don't seem that smart.

We have lost A LOT of games in the last minute that we previously lead.

I hope they're intentionally tanking.

Me too. Straight into the Jabari shaped promise land.

If we are, it reminds me of Golden State a few years back, when everyone was like "You have so many good players. How are you losing so often?"

To me, it's just too obvious what the problem is. The Big 3 doesn't work. You need to bench a player. Smith gets too much money. Monroe wants to get too much money. Drummond is too good to bench. In my opinion, Drummond is the guy to get benched because he plays better with the second unit and he gets gassed by the 4th quarter. Then he goes off to have an amazing game lol. I think we're not going to see a change this season. It's a loss. Too bad I made a bet that we'd make the Playoffs this season yet again. What a horrible general manager. Thanks for everything you've done Dumars. But just like Hamilton and Prince, you've overstayed your welcome. You need to go.

Might as well run the twin towers lineup if we're tanking and start accumulating relevant data to see if they can coexist. My money is yes.

Let's go evaluation mode.

I would be very pleased with Jabari Parker wearing a Pistons uniform next season.

Brandon Knight would be our PG if we were intentionally tanking. Josh Smith, on the other hand, would be the most expesnive tank commander ever.

It all makes sense now though. That's why Drummond called himself Sargeant Zero.

I take Knight over Jennings over and over again.

How could we gamble on tanking? We have to finish top 8

We are at 9 right now, its not inconceivable that we keep our pick.

That said, we clearly AREN'T taking- we are just a team of misfits and lousy coaching.

Agreed. It would be such a disappointment if we ended up in the 9 to 12 range.

I'm just thinking Joe Dumars will be fired, Monroe will be gone, & if lucky we keepb our pick. I'm most disappointed with KCP as he looks like a role player and not a starter. I didn't think the talent he possessed garnered such a high pick. Joe needs to go now.

Agree that Dumars will be fired (or resign). Monroe will be traded before he bails on us. We should get our 8th pick. I still think KCP pick was ok - it wasn't like we were getting a franchise player in last year's draft with the 9th pick. It could have been worse - we could have drafted Shabazz.

We should offer Stuckey for Shabazz. Why not, To hell with it lets bring Shamu to the D and watch him turn into a star 8-) .

Joe is a huge problem alright, but Gores kept him on in the last year of his deal, but fired the head coach. I get the feeling that literally every other coaching candidate rejected the Piston job because of that arrangement - GM on last year of deal with play-offs or fired edict from a non-basketball guy new owner.
