I believe part of being a great coach is being able to design a system to fit your talent. It doesn't always have to be acquiring talent to fit a pre-existing system. There is a way to make this roster work and there are multiple different styles of basketball you can play that have all been successful in this league. You don't have to follow the Miami model of spreading the court with shooters just because it works for them. That's not the only way to play. Cheeks just hasn't figured out how to maximize this roster, and he really hasn't even done anything to try. So the whole fit thing is way overblown to me. Its more about just bad coaching.

I will say that chemistry is something that gets overlooked too though. Aside from coaching and fit based on skillsets, sheer chemistry in terms of synergy, personalities, everyone being on the same page mentally/emotionally etc, that just doesn't seem to be here at all, and that can be just as important if not more. So even if we had a great coach and everyone's game complimented each other basketball-wise, I'm not sure how much better they would be because the players just have no chemistry.

When you think about it, can anyone name two players on this team that have chemistry together besides Drummond & Bynum?

I can't think of even one other duo, let alone talking about putting together a whole cohesive 5 man lineup, and that's really something you don't know until you put the pieces together, but no one meshes on this team chemistry-wise. Its like everyone is playing on their own wavelength.

Please, point to me how many teams of the last 20 that have reached the finals had anything remotely close to how horrible our spacing is.

Spacing isn't a "strategy that works for teams like Miami". It's a fundamental principle that teams that play the game well simply have.

Feel for your problem which faced the Raptors earlier in the year with Gay. We had to two high volume shooters in Gay and Derozan just as you have with Jennings and Smith. In the trade SAC got the best player and he has responded playing better. Toronto got salary relief and journeyman types of players who made our depth greater.

The team responded and has played well giving Ross ( no he isn't better than Drummond ) but is likely 3rd best prospect out of the draft class Davis, Drummond, Ross. Toronto's defense improved to 6th best in the league without taking a hit on offense.

While Dumars is unlikely to do it trade Smith & Stuckley for Bargs, Smith, Shumpert, Fillers & 2018 1st.
Detroit will tank Bargs expires next year, Smith might rejuvenate in a new team plus NYKs paid his 1st 2 years of salary. Shumpert needs a new team. This makes NYKs better get into 8th spot. Plus gives you time to make a rational decision on Monroe.

With luck you will get a top 5 pick.

Lillard is a better prospect than Ross, that's a pretty good analogy. Smith/Jennings in tandem have been bad overall. They've won us some games by themselves, but they've lost us as well. I hope DeRozan makes the all star team. Good to see Toronto doing better.

Somehow slipped my mind you are right likely 2 better than Drummond at this stage simply because he was a senior. Cs take time will be interesting in the future seeing Jonas and Drummond develop totally different styles and Dre has had the benefit of more minutes. Drummond will always be a better rebounder but Jonas will average 10 plus. Jonas will be better offensively more range but likely lower shooting % and obviously better from free throw. Both have holes in there defense but are capable of being dominating. See both minimum top 5 Cs.
