Did something change since then? Was it always wrong? Or do our eyes deceive us?
(Though no matter how you view those numbers, both players are on the freakish side of the athletic spectrum for their positions.)

With Green being smaller he gives off more of a float effect when he gets up. Did anyone see DJ Stephens from Memphis the past few years? He set an NBA Draft Combine record with a 46" vertical and he's only 6'5!

Green is a piece of beauty when he slams it down. I don't think I've seen anyone as plastic since VC. It's absurd how he gets up effortlessly, and his dunking touch is magnificent.
He would make a quite interesting 3D role player although right now he's just a gunner.

Re: Gerald Green max vert: 39.0. Miles Plumlee? 40.5
Green can access his max vert more easily than Plumlee can, if that makes sense. Green can get up effortlessly, on a whim, whereas Plumlee needs to gather and load up more before attaining his max vert.

Yeah, I think that's a huge part of it. Plumlee outweighs Green by like 60 pounds. It's as much about physics as it is athleticism: inertia is tied to mass. Ping pong balls and bowling balls bounce off the wall differently.
One thing that's missing from the draft measurements: any kind of endurance testing. I'd love to see something like 400m and mile times. I think that's incredibly relevant to basketball: It's not just how fast you can run for a few seconds when you're fresh; it's how fast you can run when you're already out of breath from running up and down the court for a while. I think Green would separate quite a bit from Plumlee in endurance tests.

Just as an aside. Randy Moss recorded a 51 inch vertical at the NFL combine.

Green can either jump a foot higher now or it's a typo.

Green is 6'-8"
Rim is 10'
The top of his head is about eight inches over the rim.
Do the math: 120" + 8" - 80" = 48" vert (give or take)
Either way the dude's vert is amazing!!

Max verts are overrated because most guys aren't 2 foot jumpers. That's why guys like Plumlee and Zeller who put up crazy good numbers don't play above the rim like you think they would based on that jump measurement.

Re: Gerald Green max vert: 39.0. Miles Plumlee? 40.5
Yeah max vert is really just a number. They really should record 2nd jump verts because it's usually in those situations where "usable" verticals are displayed. Most players rarely display their true max vertical because they don't get the chance to load up. Guys like Amare and Marion had very quick load ups because they had a ton of usable vertical which allowed them to dunk over the defense or grab rebounds over bigger opponents.
Plumlee has impressive athletic stats but in most situations, he won't be able to reach close to those stats

How much time do you guys think Gerald Green has, before he starts todecline in terms of his vert? 28 seems to be the number when guys are on their peak.

You never know, but this one has not played a ton of minutes over his pro career, and looks so vastly gifted that even if he started to lose something, he'd still be quite above average, unless his decline was because of injury. I have no idea how he takes care of his body tho.
