I actually agree with Casey's message, Ross just needs to put it together. Wouldn't go as far to say he has more upside than Jonas though.

I'm actually really big on Ross

I would rather develop him now than pay nearly 10M to Demar for the next 4 years!

That said...

What is Casey smoking!

Ross will have opportunities this year to play a big role on the team, since the bench is so light (and there is no Alan Anderson). I suspect either Ross or Buycks (hopefully both) will emerge this season.

As part of the deal, though, Casey is required to say really dumb things throughout the season to maintain the lunatic reputation required of him for TOR to tank without tanking its players' values.

Meh, I think casey's comments are kind of like planting the seed of taking credit for ross if he turns out to be good. (That sentence was pretty bad). If his comments prove ridiculous, well, casey's just a coach, not a talent evaluator...if ross reaches his upside and proves to be a good 3 and D player, and improves his dribble drive, casey is the guy who always saw his potential. I mean bigging up guys, and talking about their potential puts the onus on them to work hard to achieve it, plus you have a coach who "believes in you" which psychologicly is a good thing.

Taking this with a grain of salt. He cant coach, doubt he is a good talent evaluator.

Using the press in an attempt to boost a young player's confidence one last time before giving up on him .. that seems to fit nicely

I still think Casey is right. However, having potential and being able to reach it are separate issues.

I think Terrence has great potential because of his quickness and shooting stroke. However, unless he understands how to utilize his advantages, he'll never be able to reach anything near what he can do.

Jonas might not have a higher potential than Terrence, but I think he'll be able to reach his ceiling more predictably.

Casey has been a great coach and I think he in some ways right about Ross... Ross is great defender already, he can shoot lights out, he has sprewell type of quickness, he is athletic as hell... If he works on his ball handling, his ability to get to the line and consistency he is easily our best player.

Ross is already more valuable then Jones just by his elit defence.. If he improves his handles and his ability to get to line he has potential to be all star if not star ...

I don't disagree with that. We don't know what any of these guys ceilings are but I will take an athletic freak who can shoot the lights out, defend and put up 51 points while still being raw and learning the game. Casey didnt say he will reach that potential but he has the tools too, he has to grow between the ears and put in some work, gain experience and who knows. The guy works with him all day give him some benefit of the doubt, why do you all have to freak out over nothing? Chillz, get your popcorn.

This thread was made in August when it was believed that Jonas was the next Hakeem Olajuwan.

Ross has some poor man reggie/ray mix potential...overall offense not as good but with better defense

Couldn't agree more. I think his abilities are very raw, he has a Paul George type game, I can see an All-star season in his future.

I don't see why this is considered a dis respect to Jonas. He said upside from a potential point of view. Didn't say better or more valuable or more likely to reach it. But seriously, from a potential standpoint, what can't Ross do? Yes he needs to get to the line more, and do a better job attacking the basket, other than free lanes, but really the guy can shoot, is a great athlete and can defend. He does have the tools - time will tell.

One could say they also think Jonas has a better chance of meeting his potential and being a top 5 C, and it wouldn't exactly be wrong or be at odds with Ross. Having a dependable 3pt valve and a lock down wing would be huge for this team. I mean he just showed you when he dropped 51 how high the limit could be. Who knows if he maxes it out or not.

EDIT: Sorry didn't realize this was a spite bump. If i had I wouldn't have wasted my time in posting in it.

Spite bump? These threads always put a smile on my face. It really goes to show how awful this board truly is. Lots of credit to the good posts though, there are and have always been Ross and Casey supporters. Keep up the good work fellas

I think that's true, but it's close with JV. It's nice to have two young guys with high ceilings on the team.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."
