and im sure if a contender traded for him, he'd sign it. i really cant evision any scenario where he actually hits free agency. for that to happen OKC would have to think they have a GREAT chance to resign him. which i cant see being the case. and they cant let him just walk, he's too good, too young, and they can get too much back in reutrn

Due to the CBA players need to let their contract officially finish then re-sign with the team to make the most money they can in any deal. An extension actually costs the players money.

For example, Howard was traded to the Lakers, let his contract run out so he could either sign for the most money possible with LA & a 5 year deal or move to any team on max terms for 4 years. It will be exactly the same for any superstar in the future.

Just the same as D Will did with Brooklyn which allowed him to take free agent meetings prior to signing with Brooklyn again.

No matter where KD ends up, he will be a free agent in 2016.

Yea, and look at how much dwights image has taken a hit because of that. which has to be factored in.

If durants options are to let his contract expire and walk instead of accepting a trade to another team and signing an extension(or at the very least, gauranteeing that team he will resign once his contract ends) and OKC loses him for nothing there would be lebron/dwight type backlash.

Nets related affilates can write up all the sh*t, page hits articles they want.... the GM n Organization fails to hit the big name FAs and highlights how they hit HR with small priced acquisitions...

I think he knows he can expand his brand being in Brooklyn as opposed to OKC. I think he's upset with OKC management for being cheap. And yeah, if D-Will can still ball in 2016, then he might want to play for a pass-first PG as opposed to Westbrook. Also, Lopez is as good as gone imo...as soon as he puts together a good stretch of healthy basketball, I think we will (and should) move him for the best package available. Use what we get from the Lopez deal, add it to Deron (who I really, really, really hope opts out and signs for less money per year on a longer term deal), and then go after 2 max free agents like Durant and Love. I think it's a 95% certainty that we at least add Dwight, who will be a free agent and would presumably still want to play in Brooklyn at that time.

I don't get why people act like we're not a premier free agent destination at this point. We haven't had cap space since coming to Brooklyn, so we haven't been able to sign a big time free agent yet, but look at how many role players have taken discounts to play for us. And if we were still in NJ, I can guarantee that Pierce and KG would never have come here, even if we had the exact same team in place. In fact, Deron never re-signs here if we were still in NJ.

Big market, owner that will spend a boatload of money on the team, national spotlight, brand new arena, vastly growing and enthusiastic fanbase, and all the perks of living in the city. Yes, Billy King sucks as a GM, and that might deter some players, but they could also look at it this way: you WILL play with talent while you're here. We might vastly overpay for that talent...but you're not going to be playing for a bum team. You'll play for a competitive team. And honestly, most NBA players aren't that smart when it comes to roster management. I honestly think that among players, Billy King has a good reputation, since he's a "player's GM": I don't think players care that much about draft picks or the future, they care about the now, and nobody is more of an "all in right now" GM than Billy King.

Article should have read "half the league prepered to go after Durant", these articles are disgusting. He's a free agent in two and a half years, and there is no way he is being moved in the next two. Making a trade thread is just idiotic, he's the second best player in the league.
