No, he wouldn't.
Due to the CBA players need to let their contract officially finish then re-sign with the team to make the most money they can in any deal. An extension actually costs the players money.
For example, Howard was traded to the Lakers, let his contract run out so he could either sign for the most money possible with LA & a 5 year deal or move to any team on max terms for 4 years. It will be exactly the same for any superstar in the future.
Just the same as D Will did with Brooklyn which allowed him to take free agent meetings prior to signing with Brooklyn again.
No matter where KD ends up, he will be a free agent in 2016.
