Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
Peterson/Jean was the best fight last week. The others were kind of 'meh' to me, Garcia/Burgos was on the dull side, Jennings/Spilka had its moments but I think HBO was a bit over the top on Jennings. Charlo dominated Rosado, who shouldn't be fighting on premium TV anymore.
Ortiz/Collazo is tonight on FOX Sports...the last time I saw Collazo fight...Berto in 2009? Ortiz should win, I would think.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
Collazo is a hard luck case, man. A lot of close fights against big names, a couple of which would have catapulted him to 6 figure match-ups and a legit career. A lot of 113-114 and 112-114s against Berto and Hatton. IIRC, that Berto decision was particularly bad. Would have been huge wins.
Meanwhile, he was then avoided precisely because he had no name wins and yet was clearly able to push major fighters to the brink. I see he's barely fought since that Berto 'loss'.
The guy was stuck with like literally a milk delivery gig or something all the way through his career. During his camp for Berto the guy had nonetheless to do his deivery route every morning before training.

Ortiz got KO'ed. Wow. Congrats to Collazo. Watch him get the Mayweather fight lol J/K
Ortiz way too wide with his hook. Collazo was a better boxer. His hook was shorter and caught Ortiz flush.

Oof. That might be it for poor Ortiz. At least he didn't have to deal with the Mexican crowd in L.A.

Ortiz is done. I was surprised, and not so surprised when he didn't get up from that knock down. Looks like he got hit with a couple of shots to the side of his head on his way down.

Yeah, I'm surprised Golden Boy didn't put this fight on Showtime. If Peterson/Jean could headline a Saturday card, so could this one.
I'd like to see Collazo against Porter, Thurman, Maidana or Broner. Hell, even a fights against guys like Peterson, Matthysse and Garcia would be entertaining if those two were to move up to 147.

Screw that....we need Collazo to challenge Malingaggi for the Brooklyn belt.

Lots of options for him to get back in the mix. Some East Coast rivalries that would sell well too.
There's also Mayweather at Barclays, don't forget.
It seemed like Luis and Paulie were pretty tight, I'd assume they'd scrap nonetheless?

Not even people in Brooklyn care about two locals going at it. Nor do they care about bragging rights. They just want to see good fights period. That being said Paulie would be an intriguing match up. But there are much more exciting fan friendly fights to be made.

The sad thing is, Collazo has done more to earn a fight against Mayweather than Khan.
Give me Collazo and Garcia at Barclays. That's the most exciting matchup on paper for me.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
Shame on HBO for not airing the GGG fight. I know it was a stay busy fight against a no name opponent, but still there's no excuse. Unlike Ward, people would have tuned in to see him fight regardless of the opponent. He was the network's 3rd biggest draw last year, just sightly behind Cotto and JCCJ. How does every country around the world get to see the fight except the US?

I think they tried to do it last minute but there was some issue with the facility for the HBO broadcast. I don't know why they couldn't just televise it and then have the people announce it from a studio. Lord knows you only see them at the very beginning and the very end of the fight anyway. Do the play by play/color commentary from the states and have Max Kellerman interview him in the ring at the end of the fight. It isn't complicated.
It sucks. They need to keep putting this guy in front of the HBO audience to continue building buzz for a future fight with Martinez.

Re: Boxing Thread 4.0
His audience keeps growing with every performance. He's doing Cotto and Chavez Jr type of numbers on HBO, and those guys had the luxury of having large ethnic followings, plus either years of buildup to their brand(Cotto), or being the famous son of a legendary boxer(JCCJ). GGG has been on HBO for 1 1/2 years, and he's a huge ratings draw for them already. I really don't understand why they didn't try to put the network the moment the fight was announced.
Also, Martinez isn't fighting him this year. First comes Cotto, then he'll chase a fight with Canelo.
GGG is in a tough spot because he's being forced to fight lesser competition. People keep bringing up his lackluster resume but they don't understand the fact that none of the big dogs at 160 want to fight him. He has to clean up 160 first before he even considers moving up to 168. I don't want to see him fighting the likes of Kirkland either.

They have Miguel Vasquez headlining a card in several weeks fight on HBO2.... I love boxing... to an unhealthy degree... but he should never be on TV... much less HBO... even if it is on HBO2....
It is completely unacceptable that HBO didn't carry this on HBO2 during the day....

Caught up with that Ortiz-Collazo fight. Jeez, not too long ago this guy was on top of the world after that amazing fight with Berto.
