Gores in town meeting with Pistons front office

Post#1 » by Q00 » Fri Jan 31, 2014 9:22 pm

From Ellis' chat today and Mlive:

What trade rumors are you hearing surrounding the Pistons?
by kevin 11:21 AM

I tell folks all the time we report what we hear so if we aren't reporting anything we ain't hearing any thing. But Gores is in town meeting with the front office and it doesn't take a major leap to say they are discussing how to get this team to improve. Obviously the trade route is an area to look at.

Owner Tom Gores and his Platinum Equity boys are all conspicuously in town this week. They have plenty of business to do in the area, but you can bet the Pistons' direction before the trade deadline will be raised.

Considering most of the times that Gores and his henchmen have come to town to meet w/ the front office in the past have been only for major decisions like Frank getting fired, free agency, the draft, etc., perhaps maybe there's a major trade about to go down and Gores is here to sign off on it.

Which one(s) is it?

A) Discussing trades to improve, make a run at the playoffs

B) Discussing trades to get rid of Josh Smith

C) Discussing how to properly tank the rest of this season away to keep our pick.

D) Discussing the possible firing of Dumars

E) Discussing the possible firing of Cheeks

F) Taking Dumars and Co out for an early Valentines dinner of appreciation!

More than likely A

Jeff Green, E. Gordon, Waiters, Evan Turner and Wilson Chandler should be our targets.

Certainly could be any of these except F unless Gores and Dumars have a secret relationship we're not aware of (which might explain his continued employment).

I think this is a good sign. Dumars might be a bit tentative to make another big move after Jennings and Smith have not had a significant impact. Gores probably signed off on them, which helps Dumars keep his job. That being said, Gores and his henchmen like numbers to improve and have a great track record at making that happen. So I would expect a change of some kind before the trade deadline.

I see joe trying to get rondo and green for Monroe. I wouldn't be totally upset with that.

However if we trade moose for anything short of Batum or Leonard I'll be pissed. No KCP throw in nonsense either.

I would try and trade Monroe to Cleveland in some package involving they're draft pick this year. Gilbert might be done playing with the draft and might trade it.

Can't talk about tanking - one would have to believe the league would greatly frown upon that, so it's not something you can have a meeting about.

They really only have one move - firing Dumars.

They can't fire Cheeks without Dumars, and they better not extend Dumars or I'm done with this team.

I'd be open to this because it would improve them so that they'd finish better than us so we keep our pick, but there would probably be heavy protection on the pick. They have young bigs that they much be souring on - Thompson and Bennett, one would have to come our way as well.

Hopefully something happens soon, either joe gets fired or we do a trade to improve this team. I'm just so tired of this current roster we need something to be excited about.

I would trade Smith for a bag of chips, but the owner of the chips probably declines

A & B are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

It wouldn't even be a lottery pick if they add Monroe though.

Probably would, They suck pretty bad right now and I don't think Monroe changes them into a playoff team or anything.

Can Deng be traded again in-season?

I'd do Monroe/CV for Deng if he agreed to sign an extension after the trade and the deal was contingent on it.

I don't know about all of that. But, I'd definitely do a Moose for Waiters and an unprotected 2014 1st from Cleveland.

Nope. He's a Cav until the end of the season.

According to espn trade machine, he can be traded anytime as long as he's the only Cavs player involved in the deal, and it says a Monroe/CV for Deng trade is successful.
