Epic fail season
The way things are going it seems we are on track to have the worst season imaginable.
1. We suck. No if ands or buts about it... We suck.
2. We are on pace right now to miss the playoffs and lose out on a top 8 pick in a fairly good draft class.
3. With recent news that we aren't interested in trading moose nor signing him to a lucrative contract in the offseason it appears we are on course to lose him for nothing.
To sum it up we came into the season with expectations of a team with young talent that would grow by getting a solid playoff series under their belts.
A little past the midway mark there is little ( if anything) left to cling onto. Of all the bad things that could happen to us it seems like all of them will. Missing the playoffs, failing to keep our pick, losing moose for nothing, being stuck with two cancers and a scrub head coach as we are stuck in basketball purgatory for the next few years.
Sad times my dear friends, sad times.

You must be thinking of another board, this board has been outstanding in the past month or so as most are finally on the same page with what most of the issues are.

1. We don't "suck". Sucking would actually be good at this point since we would get a high draft pick. Right now, we are underachieving and have a bad mix of talent.
2. Yep - but we are only half way in. We could end up bottom 8 or in the playoffs and nobody would be surprised
3. Nobody associated with the pistons has ever said we won't give moose a big contract. Nobody.

1. We don't suck, we have chemistry issues.
2. If we miss the playoffs, that's fine. We have the youngest starting 5 in the league, so missing the playoffs is a possibility.
3. I thought everyone knew we were going to keep Monroe?

This season is definitely an Epic fail. But, being they are so young, at least there is still hope.

Re: Epic fail season
I don't want to come off as pessimistic but we do indeed stink. Just because we don't stink enough to get a high draft pick doesn't change the fact that we just aren't that good a team (keep in mind the east is so weak that 3 teams can go on 3 game win streaks and we would become bottom 5). Chemistry, coaching, whatever the excuse is it doesn't change this fact.
Most people were iffy with the smoove signing and when we learned he would play SF many of us thought wtf. Yet very few envisioned a season that would go this bad.
Before the season i had us slated as the 6th seed, when we got wins over miami and indy (and looking at the crappy east) i thought we had enough talent to actually finish 3rd.
Right now the only thing i look out for is the continued growth of KCP and dre. The rest doesn't matter to me anymore.

Re: Epic fail season
I don't know if Epic fail is where we are at. Huge disappointment for sure. Epic Fail would be signing Stuckey to the Max.
Agree that Drummond and KCP (and Monroe!) need to continue to develop.
Jennings I think can be salvaged, but we need a better coach. Actually, less likely, but Smith could be saved as well. If we had someone like Popovich, and he told Smith to stop shooting anything past 12 feet, he would do it or not play. Doesn't seem to be the case here.

I think, at the end, is all on the coach.
Conley-Allen-Prince-Randolph-Gasol was Conference Finals.
They only had two 3 point shooters in that team. Randolph always was an anti-competitive player before play next to Gasol and with Hollins as coach, Conley get so much better with him, he could fit Tony Allen who had got serious troubles in offense...
I prefer trade Smith for a real and smarter SF, I prefer a PF who could shoot 3's and open the court, I prefer a PG who was able to defense... but at the end, is all on the coach, on HIS system, and Cheeks looks like he was rondo.

Re: Epic fail season
If after signing Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith and winding up with chemistry issues that leads to a less than stellar record is called an "epic fail," don't pursue a career as an NBA analyst. This season to me has been an epic "Gee, no kidding."

It was a predictable fail, to be sure.
Still, I doubt the brass went into this with a .400 record just past the halfway mark in mind. That's gotta be considered a fail.

The FO thought just mashing in "big" name signing and athleticism would somehow work itself out and be a winning team.
It's hilarious.

I agree with you here that the biggest problem is the coach. A better coach with a stronger personality that demanded players to be smart and be accountable is exactly what this roster needs. We have the exact opposite.
I do think that Smith can be salvaged with the right coaching staff. The guy's talent is off the charts. His biggest problem is that no one has ever bothered(or he has refused to learn) to teach him about the game. Talent-wise, he is one of the top 5 forwards in the NBA but his lack of basketball smarts kills him. If someone could get his attention and properly teach him about the game, he would be worth the money he's paid. What's the old saying? "You cant teach talent". That guy is by far, the most talented player on this team. He just needs someone to work with him(and quickly). Andre Drummond makes bonehead mistakes also because he is still learning the game. No one here wants to trade him. It's a little late in the game for Smith but if he is willing and we had the proper people in place to guide him, he would be great. Jennings is in a similar situation IMO.

Re: Epic fail season
McDonough, now in PHX, would have been the perfect GM hire. Looks like he knows how to pick a coach as well.
Atlanta and Charlotte, both with new coaches, seem to be playing above their talent level as well (Atlanta with the injuries).

We can't possibly have chemistry issues... Dumars only brings in high character guys.

Any word from Jennings yet about his allstar snub? It usually follows with him crying through February.

Re: Epic fail season
Right now we are sitting as the 10th seed in the east and would have the 9th pick in the draft go to Charlotte.
There is NO WORSE position for us to be in than to end up with the 9th worst record that means we're too bad to make the playoffs but at the same time have Charlotte the BEST POSSIBLE pick they could get from us.
If the season ended today it would certainly be the most EPIC FAIL of a Pistons season.

I'm not too worried about not tanking. Even if we did and got a high pick Joe D would **** it up anyway

Honestly, I'd hope he's not delusional enough to believe that he deserved to be an all star.
