That would be really confusing when 10 years from now, someone asks "who scored the most of in a game in Charlotte Hornets history" and the answer could be two different things. I'd think you would have to include any record by the Hornets 88-02 and Bobcats 04-2015 or whatever.

Do the Bucks include records from when the Hawks were in Milwaukee?
76ers from when the Warriors were in Philly?
Mavericks from when the Chaparrals (Spurs) were in Dallas?
Hornets from when the Jazz were in New Orleans?
Bulls from when the Packers/Zephyrs (Wizards) were in Chicago?

The new Seattle Sonics (whenever they get another team) won't have any record of Payton, Kemp, Schrempf, etc.

Records are attached to a franchise, not a name. Muggsy never played for the team I support. Neither did LJ, Zo, Dell, or Robert Parish's old ass.

EDIT: When the Browns left for Baltimore, they left all of the names, colors, and history in Cleveland. When Shinn left, he took everything. That's a completely different scenario. The only one similar to the Browns was the way the Sonics left for OKC. There was an agreement (now expired I think) that if a team returned to Seattle within a # of years then they would get all of the history back. ... didn't work out.

Gordon's 26 also tied our last spot for most points off the bench.

So say the Bobcats switch to the Hornets next season, and you have a kid, take him to games, and when he is 8 years old in 2024, he says "daddy, who was your favorite Charlotte Hornets player?" would you automatically exclude all Hornets from 1988-2002?

I see what you are saying with different team names and such..but those were different names and they chose to go a different direction and distance themselves from the previous franchise. But it would literally be the exact same name than the previous NBA franchise had and it would be very confusing to have two sets of records for Charlotte Hornets basketball. "Introducing the all time Charlotte Hornets leader in points, Michael Kidd Gilchrist! Oh, and also Glen Rice, the 2nd all time leader in points!"

I'd name my favorite Charlotte Hornets player and wait until he got older to explain the unique situation the franchise is in.

Would you be so for bringing old Hornets history back if they were terrible the whole time?

The franchises are completely separate and would only be connected by having the same name. If the Lakers changed their name to something else, the Timberwolves couldn't claim the Lakers and try to bring back all of their Minneapolis history.

If Chevrolet stopped making the Corvette and Ford decided to make a car named the Corvette, they couldn't claim Chevy's history even though they're both from the same city.

What about this... If we take all the old Hornets history back, does the New Orleans franchise all of a sudden lose 14 years of it's existence? Do we both claim Dell Curry as our franchise leader in points? Or do we say "Hey guys, he played in Charlotte, not New Orleans, get your own records!"

A franchise record is a franchise record, not a city or name record.

I hope we remain Bobcats. Or other unrelated nickname. I don't merging two franchises.

Didn't he set another franchise record for most 3s in a quarter last night too?

Does he have the only triple doubles in franchise history?
