Bynum officially signs with Pacers

Post#1 » by mikepacernation » Sat Feb 1, 2014 4:16 am

Pacers in serious talk with Bynum. They are meeting tonight in Indy. No deal has been made but it was reported they are in serious talks now

Hope you don't mind Mike. I edited the thread title to reflect the official signing. - Scoot

It's all over the net. I don't mind giving him a try, Roy is pretty banged up, especially in back-to-back games, and we can use another big aside from Mahinmi. I don't really see him breaking into the team chemistry with an attitude problem or something. This team will not tolerate that kind of attitude, and I am pretty confident that the vets, notably West, will not let that happen.

I agree I think we have enough veteran presence on our team that if something happened that it wouldn't hurt them

They signed Bynum. Does this mean that Mahinmi is gone? How does trading Mahinmi, help to resign Stephenson? Looks like Bird is at work and its a positive sign.

I'd hope not. Bynum cannot be trusted or relied upon. I'd hate to lose Ian in a swap and then have to waive Bynum. Exhaust he's an idiot and end up with Cope or Scola backing up Roy in the playoffs.

Here's the official release:

http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/pacers-sign-andrew-bynum?camefrom=EMCL_213833_10767057

A shorter version was emailed to ticket holders. Sounds like they expect him to play ahead of Ian. we had an open roster spot so no one will be cut but only 13 have been active with S Hill sitting. someone else will have to sit. as between Copeland and OJ, it's a tough call. I don't think we'd sit Ian even if he's the third center as you really need three centers active. Granger can swing to 4. OJ is pretty much just a 2. I'd sit OJ and I might try to trade Copeland although I think Phoenix exposed a need to be able to match down to faster teams.

Donald Sloan has been active, correct? I would assume they sit him.

Lakers fan here...I don't know why I read so many Pacers fans who were/are reluctant about signing him. I think he fits your team way better than Cleveland or Miami. There was a game a few years ago when he single-handedly helped the Lakers beat Miami. They couldn't stop him. With that said, make sure to keep Mahini.

Talented, but he's a poor teammate at this point of his career. For a team that thrives on chemistry, Bynum could be a major issue. We're somewhat excited, but very concerned as well.

hopefully he realizes that if he keeps his attitude that no team is gonna want him in the future and try's to show that he can be a good team leader

This is an extreme long shot however i think it's worth mentioning. Let's say Bynum looks as though he can be the 18 pts 11 reb 2 block version that played in LA. Would the pacers (and Bynum) consider a long term contract under 10 mil per year and trade Hibbert in an effort to ensure Stephenson is on the team long term. I am fully aware that this is extremely unlikely but I think it is something worth mentioning.

even if he did prove that he could do that this year I don't see him being a pacer after this season because his health issues. We've been fortunate that hibbert has never had a serous injury. They signed him because mahinmi just isn't good I think it will be rare for Bynum to see more then 20 minutes this year unless hibberts in foul trouble

This signing is the signing that could seriously help us win the title.

P.S. His banner is already up at the field house.
