We outplayed them by a ton, they got 10 FTs to our 2, we're up by 1.

Kevin Love makes a GREAT fullcourt outlet pass, Kevin Martin catches it under the basket, flops immediately and gets the foul, although there was no contact. Then, the refs called it a clear path, since he was behind the defense. He was, he was way behind the defense. Budenholzer asked, if it was a shooting foul, how it could be a clear path. Refs waved him back to the bench.

Man, as good as Korver has been this year, I can't help but be impressed by the value that minnesota got in Kevin Martin. They got him when his stock was low and signed him to a reasonable contract making less per year than KK. The difference, K-Mart2 is a consistent 20 ppg scorer and would likely lead our team in scoring while providing the same spacing that Korver gives.

Yeah, but he can't do anything else. He volume shoots and he flops - that's it. Korver plays good team defense, is a better passer, even more considering the amount of time Martin has the ball in his hands. Korver does more for us.

Martin is who we wish Lou Williams would be.

By the way, Martin has 21 points on 5-14 shooting, while Korver has 22 on 7-9.

Bad night to diss Kyle.

Now they have to foul us. Nevermind the final FT totals, it was 34-18 in their favor when it mattered.

I've said it before, but Ayon is very good with the ball in his hand on the move. He gets open and hits that little hook or layup. He's got Zaza's problem: no length nor leap nor quicks. Otherwise, he's an allstar.

lol...I didn't mean to diss Kyle.

But KM is a for reals scorer in this league. $6.5m for 19 ppg is a pretty damn solid investment.

K-Mart2 is what I hope Jenkins grows into.

Jenkins shot 44.6% last year from the field; Martin's career average is 44.2% and he's only had 4 seasons (out of his 11 year career) where he shot better than Jenkins shot (in his rookie year). Jenkins shot 38.4% from 3 last year; Martin's career average is 38.6%.

Congratulations, you've got Kevin Martin, and, if Jenkins improves at all from his rookie year, you've got better than Kevin Martin.

^Take it you're not too impressed by K-Mart2.

If JJ2 can keep up that efficiency with the increased usage as a #1 option...I'll be ecstatic.

But shooting 44% as a 3rd stringer who occasionally plays is a far cry from doing it as a starter on a playoff caliber team.

Budenholzer delivers halftime speech: It has happened before, apparently. Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer delivered a fiery halftime speech after his team lost an 11-point first quarter lead and faced an 11-point deficit in the second quarter. The Hawks responded by outscoring the Timberwolves 38-21 in the third quarter.

Several players cited the intermission "talk" by Budenholzer.

Kyle Korver - “Coach layed into us at halftime. Oh man, he really did. I thought our guys responded with a great third quarter for us. Hopefully, he doesn’t have to talk to us like that all the time. It worked tonight.”

Jeff Teague - “He came in and got after us. It’s what we needed. He motivated us. I think guys responded and played well in the second half.”

DeMarre Carroll - “Give coach credit. He did a good job of coming in here and getting on us because I think we were lackadaisical in the first half. We were getting beat backdoor a lot. We came in here, coach got on us and we responded.”

I absolutely LOVE this! This pretty much cinches it in my mind. Bud has all the tools necessary to be one of the great coaches in this league. Great Xs and Os. Good at making adjustments in game. And capable of motivating players and getting them to play for each other as opposed to playing for themselves.

Ferry can chalk up this hire as a definite win! Hope he's coaching here for the next 20 years.

In 11 seasons, Martin's been on 2 playoff teams, neither one as a starter. Matter-of-fact, he didn't start ONE game on either team, not his rookie season in SAC nor last year with OKC.

Martin is just like Jenkins and Mike Scott. The only difference is Jenkins and Scott have time to learn to play defense.

Very valid points, all. But a lot of those same criticisms could be leveled at Millsap before he got here. A lot of those same criticisms could be leveled at Jamal Crawford before he got here. And we've seen the difference being on a structured team and utilized in a proper role can play.

Come on, you have to at least acknowledge Kevin Martin's been a solid shooter for his entire career. And as a starter has consistently avg 16-19 ppg. That's more production than Korver or Jenkins can claim as the focus of opposing defenses every night. Is he franchise changing player...no. Not by any means.

But had we settled on bringing in Kevin Martin for less money instead of the $7 million we gave Kyle, I suspect our team's record would be pretty similar to what we have now. Perhaps better since Martin, Milsap, Teague and a healthy Horford would have given us 4 players capable of dropping 20+ points in a given game.

I suspect Dennis Schroeder might disagree with you here. But i digress.

He's certainly learned a lot from Coach Popovich in all his time with San Antonio. This was a great signing from the start, coach Pop is the best coach ever imo and coach Bud was at his right hand for years, I'm so glad we got him.

Someone agrees with me. This guy has a lot more on the ball than I have, however. Link: http://www.hickory-high.com/?p=11955

Short of it (the article) - why was Korver invited to try out for Team USA?

My problem with Martin is not his lack of defense but, rather, his lack of effort on defense, both on the court and - obviously - in practice.
