Is Dragic's 3pt% a fluke?

Post#1 » by Wagonband » Mon Feb 3, 2014 9:18 pm

Hi,

i love the guy, the reason why i started posting here in the first place. But do you guys think it's possible he has improved so much he can now really be a 39% shooter from 3? I mean that's dangerously close to the 40% mark considered elite, and that's for a guy back home people are still saying his biggest flaw is that he doesn't have a consistent outside shot.

Is he really nearing that %, or is this just a fluke? Can Hornacek really teach a guy 27 years old to shoot better? This is JasonKiddesque improvement here if it's going to be constant.

Only thing I can think of is that it looks like he just has a much better shot selection. His 3s are always wide open because of a double team or coming off a screen.

He was never Jason Kidd bad though. It's not that improvable.

Shooting is one of the easiest adjustments a player can make, regardless of their age. It's things like athleticism/motor/etc that can't be taught. Many players have fixed their shots after a few years in the league, or even towards the twilight of their careers, which Dragic is not close to. So, it is very possible that his 3 point shot is improved and will continue to shoot a good to great percentage.

He is streaky. I wouldn't be surprised if his numbers went down from three. The fact that he has improved his FT% this season can give us hope tho.

It seems like most teams have been going under the screen when defending Dragic on the P & R this year. He gets 1 or 2 wide open looks a game as a result.
