Bobcats Interested In Evan Turner?

Post#1 » by MasterIchiro » Tue Feb 4, 2014 1:26 pm

It's official.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/23 ... van-Turner

Now before MKG fans pounce, it's possible to get this done for the POR pick. But then again MKG would become an energy guy off the bench but at least he can be used for tough assignments on defense.

But it's obvious the Bobcats aren't sold on MKG starting at the SF position.

Or you start MKG and Turner and bring Hendo off the bench. MKG has the foot speed to defend SGs and Turner can handle on offense. The trade I would like to see is somehow land Turner and Young. I think I would trade the Det pick for that.

Well I think you're right. With Turner being able to play the SG or SF position there is some flexibility in there for Clifford based on opponents.

I want to keep the Detroit pick though. There are so many players in that range that would benefit us. Plus I want to keep more capspace long-term.

Can we just swap our somewhat disappointing 2nd overall picks and be done with it? From the Sixers standpoint, that's an easy yes.

Plus you know there will be accusations of us being a treadmill team, so it would be nice to see a "treadmill team" draft 9th. Plus you have MKG on the bench or as a trade asset. Plus next year maybe Zeller improves and surely Biz can improve more and with all of them meshing with Kemba, Turner and Jefferson, we will get better and better in my opinion.

Kemba Walker (still young and improving)
Al Jefferson
Evan Turner

There are your leaders and what keeps the Hornets in the playoff mix for years.

MKG (still young and improving)
Cody Zeller (still young with room for improvement)
Biz (still young and improving)
DET pick (James Young, Zach LaVine, Rodney Hood, Gary Harris)

There is your supporting cast and what makes us too young to be a treadmill team in a classic sense of the word.

This sounds like Tyrus Thomas situation all over again.

Not a big proponent of trading for ET, but I could definitely live with Gordon expiring + POR. Anything else, I would feel dirty.

Cho likes to collect assets, so if he can get turner cheaply - expiring and Portland pick, then I can see it happen.

If we over pay like we did with tyrus, I will be pissed

Sixers fan here...and I think we would be OK with that trade...we need to spend more $$$ this season, and Gordon helps us do that. There is too much demand for Young for him to be a throw-in...and if he doesn't get moved at the deadline, he still has vaule as a trade piece down the line.

Would there be any interest in Hawes for you guys?

Turner/Hawes for Gordon/MKG/POR #1?

As a person who REALLY wanted Turner to develop into an Iggy-like glue guy, I think he needs a change of scenery. Perhaps MJ could help that Chicago native rediscover his "villain"...

Put Zeller in there instead of MKG.

No interest in Hawes and definitely not with MKG as the add in.

No interest at all? Hawes is way better than McRoberts.

While maybe true, this is not an apples to apples comparison. I have said it all along, running our offense through McBob was detrimental to this team. Now we have to get a player with similar skill set to replace him, or look at moving Kemba for a more traditional PG.

The best way to handle this trade to me is to make Philly take Hendo with the Portland pick. I want for us to keep Gordon's expiring so we can get more cap space and go after a free agent of want this offseason.

Lol at sneaking "SF" into the thread title. At worst he's a SG/SF.

In fact, and maybe Mr. KIA can comment on this, I always thought Turner was a better fit as a SG, even if he can't shoot. I doubt they'd take back Hendo, but you have to figure he'd be on the way out in some sort of deal.

76ers fans are salivating over the Detroit pick and/or MKG...bleh.

I don't see them giving up Turner for Gordon and the Portland pick so I'll say thanks, but no thanks. (Unless they agree to Gordon + Portland pick)

First off, I don't feel the need for what could be a three-month rental of Evan Turner. I think we all will agree that we don't want to participate in the "signing Evan Turner to a new contract" competition.

Second off, why trade Hendo (along a pick) for Turner acknowledging the afore-mentioned Turner contract situation and the following... I know that I was against re-signing Hendo but now that it has happened, I've come to terms with it. He's not perfect, he is what he is but I don't feel the urge to blast him as much as others on this board do as well. At 6 mil for the next 2 1/2 seasons he's good value. A guy who score in double digits and is rather a positive on defense. That being said, I wouldn't say no to an upgrade over him, whether that's trading him away or making him a 6th man, but I'll say no to Evan Turner.

Moreover, how much better Evan Turner even is than Hendo? I'll won't argue that they're the same player, surely Turner is the better creator and has more length, which makes him a more interesting player/asset, but they're rather similar in a sense that both score off the dribble from the mid-range and both have troubles with three pointers.

Matter of fact, I'm sure that if you put Hendo (in his contract year) on this Philly team, he could easily replicate Turner's current 18ppg, 0.43 FG% season. We saw enough evidence last winter-spring when he earned his current contract.

Third off, there's a reason why everyone values draft picks so high. Even if you agree with everything said above (Turner's contract and Turner not being that better/different from Hendo) and still want to do the upgrade from Hendo to Turner, then I'll make the argument that I don't think a draft pick is worth the trouble. I'd rather take a young swingman who can shoot the three-ball and see what I have in him for three or four years (a million per year) than deal with this Turner situation. That would simply be better money management.

As for any MKG-Turner deal, even without the pick... please... I don't even need to go on and possibly overrate (we all do that a bit with MKG, let's admit it) MKG's defense and potential. I have to again point at Turner's expiring and just say that it's smarter to stay with MKG than to acquire a repetitive skill which we already have in Hendo.

hopefully we will be able to sign and trade him this summer. That's the only way I'm interested.

He really isn't much better than Hendo. Let's be honest. We really do not need him.
